Coming out of lurker mode...

Yesterday was supposed to be NGD, I ordered an American Deluxe Telecaster with a Maple neck in Olympic Pearl. It arrived, I opened the boxes and case, and the guitar was damaged. :/
About an inch long dent on the bottom left side with cracked finish around it.

Here's the guitar (sooooo beautiful) and the damage (ouch):

I've sent it back already with an exchange on the way (the company was good about the exchange), but it seems to me that the guitar was damaged before it was put in the case.

Has anyone seen this happen in the past? The boxes were all sealed from Fender and I checked the interior of the case and it seems like there isn't anything that could have dented it through the foam. Any ideas?

It's made me nervous about the next one arriving this week. Any chance someone can calm my nerves and tell me it'll be fine? :)

Was so bummed.

Oh, and hello! I'm new.

Heh, no worries on not having answers. I assume this happens from time to time. Thanks for the welcome! I'm excited to be involved. I can't wait for the new one. I REALLY hope it's perfect this next time around.

I had the same sort of thing happen to me with the 60th anniversary tele last year. The guitar arrived at the dealer and when he checked it over damage to an area near the jack socket (i have a photo somewhere).

The only thing we could work out was that the case/box had been dropped or bashed somehow and the case had flexed inwards and the metal rim of the case had hit the guitar and then returned to its normal shape.

If you look at the guitar in the case the skb cases dont have much room between the guitar and the edge of the case. My dealer has had a couple with the same sort of damage.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Yeah, I'm pretty sure the damage was incurred before it went in the case. That perks up my hopes that the next will be fine (that or QA has some issues).

The new one is due here on Friday! I'll update with new pics!

Seems someone was just being careless when they packed that up for final shipping.
That ding is fixable of course, had you done something to inflict that damage yourself,
but on a brand new Tele -- nope - sending it back was the right call.

Good luck with the replalcement and welcome to the forum.

Hi Withfoam

I can't resist asking whether you got you guitar on Friday?

I can't wait to hear your views on it and see the pictures :D

Happy news! It came on Friday and all I can complain about is that the volume knob is a little corroded/dirty. Sadly, not the greatest QC I've seen from a company, but I digress...

It sounds great though. Great tone, really nice grain on the neck, and the Olympic Pearl finish really came out nice. I love the sparkly hint in it (see pic 3).

PICS OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN
