So I never thought a tele could get a really great distortion or anything, since it's known for it's twangy-ness and it has two single coil pickups. But I've seen quite a few bands, some even in the screamo scene using teles and getting distortion and solo sounds that are better than les pauls. I haven't had the chance to rock a Deluxe American tele yet, but I know when I get the chance, I'm grabbing the Cherryburst.

Would you use a tele even for the new sounds? such as post hardcore and screamo and such?

First off,,, I'm no expert,,, but I've
seen Tele's used in all genre's of
music... Even Jazz...

Brad Paisley played a Tele on a
Jazz video I saw with Harry Conick

It is definitely possible but you will still get a slightly different tone with the single coil. I do know that on for awhile, the lead guitarist from Thrice used an American Deluxe, but after a lot of hunting i found out he dropped a hot rail into the bridge which explains the humbuckerish tones. I'd say try it out with some higher gain to see if you like the sound. I personally love it. Long story short, i would say you could easily play new sounding stuff like indie/screamo/post-hardcore stuff. Tele's can be used for just about anything it seems. Have fun.

S1 switch in will give you more volume. Raise the pups as high as you can without getting any string buzz. the SCNs have a lower field strength so you can get them pretty close before they start affecting the strings. Maybe throw a pedal in the mix too.

A quick addition: I was in guitar center today and way trying out the baja tele, and you can get some great distorted tones out of it. I making a partscaster that looks like a 62RI but has the sounds of a baja with SCNs so its also possible to mess with some stuff and get whatever tone you want out of it.

The american deluxe tele is a fantastic and beautiful instrument. sure it isn't seen to be the heaviest of guitars but the new s1 increases the gain dramatically.

So I've got one of these to "rent" until I decide to buy...and I am completely sold on it. With the S1 switch, you can get allot more balls, but pedals will do that as well. I just like the way this guitar was detailed. Someone or some people really poured their hearts into this one and it really stands out. I pulled it off the rack and this one was "good to go" I have not found any issues with it and it does not need to go to a luthier to finish it off. Its quite versatile for sounds but I'm not sure if it will do metal or screaming...I'm not even sure what that is...but this guitar will play music!

I just pulled one off the shelf today, and took her for an hour and a half test run. I am completely in love, and the S1 switch does add more balls indeed. This guitar is a god, and I'm getting one at the end of this month.

Couldn't be happier..

GO FENDER!

boy i don't like you guys! i'm in the boat between a baja and an american deluxe, one of those, if i get the baja i can keep my other tele, if i get the american deluxe i have to sell my other tele and only have one electric (which seems nice-string changing etc...) but i've always liked having two guitars around for recording/performing whatnot,

can anyone give me opinoins on just having an american deluxe alone?

You're the only one that can make that decision. If it were me, I would end up playing the one I like the most, and that would make the "alternate" of the same kind of guitar redundant. I'd rather have one great Tele and another type of guitar that inspires me to play different music. I have a Strat, and an LP as an example...but only one of each.
