Hi, my friend owns this genuine unique telecaster.

Being an avid player, fan and owner of 5 of them in various setups and combinations, this one really has me intrigued.

I have contacted Fender about this, asking for more information, but the chap I'm talking with has never seen one before. It's dated in '83, but unfortunately Fenders are records are hazey around that period.

There are no obvious signs that this has been modified with a hacksaw and file, and the bridge plate has been made for this tele. There are no signs that the strings used to come through the body either.

I have only seen one other I have seen is in The Osmonds video Crazy Horses.

if any one knows anymore about this setup, it would be much appreciated.

I think we can safely say it is a modded 1983/84 CBS-era Standard Tele; they had top-loading bridges so they did not string through the body. Also the back end of the bridge doesn't stick up too much - it looks like all they did when they modded the guitar was to remove the Fender saddles. When you look at the guitar again check to see if the metal plate has just a small bend on the back side and there should be 12 small holes in it (6 for strings and 6 for the saddles). Here's a photo of a 1983 Standard Tele - you can see the bridge plate pretty clearly:

By the way I think you linked the wrong video - the only guitar in that one is a Les Paul Custom.

And no... There is no bend in the bridge, it's just a flat plate, I remember looking closely to see if some one had hacksawed/filed it off, but it's as smooth as the other sides.

It could be that someone ground it down and polished it up nicely - it looks like a very professional modification but that plate looks like the stock one without the very small bend in the back.

Pretty clear from the sharp back corners on the bridge plate that it has been cut and ground smooth. If they wanted it to look authentic, they should have rounded the corners like the other two.
