Loungers,
Was thinking of posting this in "Custom Shop" category, but decided to do it here.

I have had a series of Strats: MIM, MIA, now a Custom Shop, which blew the other two out of the water. Did test some non-Fender Strat clones, but the CS strat is it, I dont even pick up Fender or clone Strats in stores or shows anymore, I way like mine.

I want a tele. Have owned two MIA Teles and tested other MIAs in stores and compared to CS teles played, the CSs win hugely, particularly on tone. Have been saving for last 8 months for a model of CS tele (in stock Wildwood 10 61 Telecaster, Wildwood guitars, Louisville, CO), and have a ways to go.

There is a local guitar sales, repair and clone building shop (Bay area, CA) that clones Fenders, usually Warmoth bodies and necks, with other hardware coming from all over, and their clones have a good reputation. I have twice tested a particular Tele clone from them: looks good, great playability, and the tones seem really good (on this clone you can choose the two Fender Custom shop Texas Special single coils in series or parallel). But tone is #1 consideration, and really wish to A/B clone versus the CS, no can do. I like this clone way better than any current MIM or MIA teles I have played in the last few months. And the clone is almost ONE THIRD the cost of the Wildwood CS.

Any advice (get the clone versus keep saving for the CS, or something else) would be appreciated. Many of you probably have experienced something like this dilemma before.

Thanks, Craig H

So the shop clones Fenders, eh? Do they also put a Fender decal on them in violation of the Fender trademark? Personally, I think coming onto the Fender website forum and asking if you should buy a clone instead of a real Fender is in poor taste. But that's just me. If you want to build a partscaster (as long as you don't put a Fender decal on it), fine. But asking here about buying a clone built by some shop? No. Maybe you should post this question on The Gear Page.

Oh. Go ahead and post this in the Custom Shop forums. I'm sure Mike Eldred will really appreciate it.
