Looks like it was some kind of Telecoustic without a sound hole.

It actually does have a sound hole... typical f hole for a thinline.

I'll have to watch again on a higher resolution monitor; I missed that when I looked at it earlier.

Does it have a black-covered Lace Sensor in the neck position? There was a late-80s/early 90s Tele with that set-up - f-hole, acoustic-style piezo bridge, and neck Lace Sensor.

It does not seem to have the neck pick up. I wondered if fender custom built this for Steve.

The guitar you're talking about is a MIJ Nylon String Tele Thinline.

Actually he uses two of such guitars, in black and sunburst.

Yep, those MIJ Nylon Strung Thinlines are no longer made. You can find them into the vintage gear market, though.

His Surf Green Strat was originally fitted with Lace Sensors.

But since he acquired a sunburst Strat with Noiseless pickups, the pickup configuration was altered to match his sunburst guitar.

Both the Surf Green and Sunburst Strats were fitted with the "Clapton" mid boost circuit.

Aha - another cool MIJ Fender that really didn't make its way to the USA. If it did make it here it had to be as one of those 6-12 month "limited edition" deals Fender was doing.
