Hey, im looking for a new guitar to setup as a dedicated slide guitar. I love my 86 strat and would really like a tele to play slide on. I dont need a USA tele, I actually would prefer the MIM. If I spend the $ for a USA tele I wont want to only play slide on it, so if I buy a cheaper MIM I think I will defer to playing the strat more and leave the tele alone for slide.

Anyway, I found this on the bay and was wondering if it was legit. Seller says its a THINLINE but it appears to be a solid body, and it has the vintage bridge. I ran the serial and it seems legit, 2005-2006 mexico. Are these all 9.5 radius? I assume so.

Thanks guys

Hi there

Its not a thinline, the neck reminds me of a Classic Player Baja Tele but does not have the custom shop designed neck plate.

Send an email to consumerrelations@fender.com and they should be able to send you the spec, but you may not get it back before the auction ends.

Let us know what they say.

Hope this helps

Definitively no thinline ! Could it be some kind of chambered ? I think the headstock looks a little awkward - could it be a fake ? Looking , nice though. Hope you find out - could be a serious slider :D

Are the tuners supposed to be vintage style too?

I looked up the serial and its from 05-06, so its one of the "60th anny" models. Did they do anything different to those or just put a decal on them?

who fakes a mim tele?

Could it just be a part-o-tele?

 First I only watched the main picture - now I found the rest  Looks ok - but I would say the fit doesn't look to great (neck/pocket - tuners in line ?? )

I just messaged the seller this:

Hi, I have several questions about this guitar. Can you guarantee its authenticity? I spot several discrepancies, its clearly not a thinline, they are hollow bodied. You state that it is made in mexico yet it has a vintage style bridge, only offered on the US models. The vintage tuners were not used on that model, and the string retainer is incorrect also. The logo doesnt look like its placed correctly either. The serial number states that it was made in 2006-07, hence the 60th anniversary button on the back of the headstock. This is what a 2006 MIM tele looks like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Fender-Tel ... 4ab8ac69fb

So, what is this?

This isn't 100% true - there are MIM models that have a vintage style bridge like the Classic series and the Nashville Deluxe. It's not a regular MIM Standard, and it's not a thinline. That being said there are always FSR models made for large retailers like Guitar Center that have odd specs - this could be a special for GC or Musician's Friend that could have had the vintage-style cosmetics and hardware. Hey - it could even be chambered as there were some chambered USA FSR models from around that time.

The OP should email that serial number to Fender as ukraider suggests to see what they say.

While all the parts dont make sense together as a normal run mim tele, it looks like a playable guitar, and the craftsmanship looks better than any "fake" or part-o-caster.

I will email fender anyway.
