UPDATE: Baritone number 2 arrived, and the shop called to say that they had checked the intonation and it was great. So.... I'm spending most of my free time playing the thing now. What a range of sound! I use an LTD Fender 4x10 Bassman, and that really brings out the low B beautifully.

However, the tone control did not work. I took off the control plate, and the pot is not even wired in. Another Monday Morning Siesta guitar! My shop said to bring it back, and they would get another. I told them to get a wiring diagram, I am keeping the Tele. It's an oversight that should not have gotten out the door of the factory, but it can be fixed. So can the slightly rough fret edges.

The copper colour paint is just awesome. No flaws there. The rosewood has a really nice grain to it and she feels fine to play. The intonation is a 9 out of 10 - the low B string saddle is butted up against the bridge and the small spring is squashed flat, so even though it is out a few cents at the 12th fret there is no changing it. No matter. I wonder if adding a new set of strings will make it worse someday, leaving me no room to adjust. We'll see. Maybe Version 2.0 of the Baritone could have the bridge moved back even 3mm for some wiggle room?

A bit of distortion would hide the sharpness, but I play jazz/fusion with a bit of echo and reverb, rarely anything else. Need that clear tone to be in tune!

Overall, a great instrument that will add a lot to the music I write. I was wondering how the heavier gauge strings would be for chords, but the extra fretboard length takes away any tension, and chords are great, even the odd 13#9s, Min/Major7ths and other jazz chords that are a stretch. If you want to add some variety to what you play, I'd recommend trying the Baritone. 8) Just give it the once-over before you head out the shop door with it. Given that I had 2 out of 2 with problems, I'm glad I went through my local shop and not an online order store. Can't imagine the logistics of returning two in a row.

Pictures to follow on a day off when I figure out Photobucket.
