Hello, I am in the search for a tele! I am looking at a used 2002 mexi for $300 thats in perfect shape or a new 72 re-issue with a humbuker at the neck and the standard single coil at the bridge for $600

like them both and NO i can not afford both.

Any thoughts?

Hello Kiethjn,

Seems to me like both these prices are
top dollar for these used axes.
For me, I go mex/std.
Best of luck on your choice.

Cheers.

It depends on your budget, imo, I think the new american standards are a really great guitars, the tele's are top notch. I really like the neck finish & tint along with the new saddle design as well. If you get the chance, give one a try. Good Luck. 8)

I agree with nicinflorida...American Standard. I bought a 2008, and cannot put it down.

Really depends on what you like. The Telecaster Custom you're talking about is a great guitar and so are the mexi's. I guess it comes down to, which feels more comfortable to you (and do you want that humbucker in the neck). I personally love the custom but i was playing a mexican tele the other day that just sang. Each guitar is going to be a little different. i don't think i really helped at all. You could always flip a coin, and if you're at all disappointed with the result, go for the other one. Because thats the one you really want. best of luck. Either way it'll be amazing.

Go for the 1997-98 California Fat Telecaster or the '99 American Fat Telecaster. Both feature Humbuckers in the neck and standard tele bridge pups.

Not on your list but go for the Classic Player Baja Telecaster MIM.

Another vote for the new American Standard. It and the new Strats are the current best bang for the buck IMO.
