On the cover of the 1968 Fender Catalog, there's a picture of a blond Telecaster with a Bigsby vibrato AND the bridge cover 'ashtray'. I always wondered, How did they manage that?!?! I like to put on the ashtray when I hang my Tele's on the wall - I'd love to be able to do that with a Bigsby!

If you cut the back out it would probably fit. But without the sides to the bridgeplate I'm not sure how well it would stay on.

Inside the catalog it's off.

Who knows how they got it to stay on for the cover photo. Maybe a big wad of tape?

What is done in "Photoshop" now was done by "airbrushing" back then, but I suspect that for something like that the photographer just taped or glued the ash tray on in order to take the photo. It would be a lot easier to airbrush out any visible tape than to airbrush in the ash tray.

I would love to see a scan of that cover.

On a similar note - I was just reading about this 72 Reissue FSR and according to the products section here on the Fender site it has a bridge cover, though there isn't a phot with the bridge cover on it, it has a Strat style bridge:

And, to take the conversation further away from the topic:
Wouldn't you just love to have an astray as an accessory item to the modern style Tele bridge..?

The ashtray should be open on the back ,

Hmmm, I've had that catalog since 1968 and I never took note of that before. My guess is that they modified the ashtray on the Bigsby-equipped models.
