I have a Fender Classic Series '50's Telecaster and a Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster Custom. I notice they feel very different to play - the Fender's neck seems much thicker; I don't know anything about why. It says the Fender has a 7.25 radius while the Squier has a 9.5 radius - does this have anything to do with it. What's it all mean???

The fingerboard radius doesn't control the neck thickness. I have a couple of Teles, including a Squier Classic Vibe Custom, and find the neck of the CVC to be really slim. I prefer a thicker neck so I'll likely sell it. Too bad, the guitar is really nice otherwise. I had considered buying a separate neck, but that's a lot of expense that I don't need.

Fender Classic series recalls what was correct for that era . Most likely is it a u-shaped neck.
The Classic vibe is just a 'vibe' from the same era - that means the looks and sound, mainly. But the neck is a more modern c-shape. That's the difference you feel . I like both

This is a nice way to understand about neck radius:

Thanks for the info - the only electric guitar I played for many years is a (really) Baldwin Burns Vibraslim. Its neck is very thin - more so than the Classic Vibe Telecaster Custom. I love the sound of a Tele and I love the way the Fender Classic series '50's sounds and looks. Is the thicker neck something I can get used to? I'm mostly an Hammond organ player so I'm not sure about all of this...

As I saw your answer, I had to check out this : http://www.fender.com/en-NO/products/se ... Telecaster®
Here you can find the specs of the different teles. It surprised me to see (still learning :? ) that the classic 50s also got a C-shape. There is obviously a difference between C and Modern C......
Yes, I am sure you can get used to it . it even may have some positive effect on your playing.

The classic series 50's tele does in fact have a 7.25" radius C shape neck.
I like the U shape better myself, I believe it is more accurate to the era.

I have learned to love the U-shape , myself. For 1,5 years ago , I bought a new Classic Series '69 Thinline, which has got an U-shaped 7.25'' neck. Absolutely love that tele! But in the beginning it felt kinda strange.
