Yeah well if the class A thing is your groove then stick with the vox. Those Super Sonics are an enigma of the "Fender Allstar". Heres Greg Koch showing off the original model (with a tele standard).

Personally, I had the amp for a week and rehearsed with it twice. The cleans are superb, I really dug the bassman voicing on it. The burn channel however left something to be desired. A little squashy, to my ear. Blanket on the amp syndrome.

I ended up going the mesa road, but got the mark V. Tweed channel for clean, extreme channel for solos and can't remember what I have the middle channel set to: heres a pick of my currect rig

Needless to say, American Special into Mesa V is tone for days.

You Sir, I believe are correct. I got seriously concerned about this whole affair so I went and played the guitar through a bigger, better amp. A Twin Reverb and what do you know, all the bad stuff went away and the mojo came back. I mean what a beautiful sound this guitar makes. I love it.

That little Vox is cool but it's just too top end and honky for my tastes. I think I'll check out a Mark III again. Which I owned about 20 years ago for a brief period and loved it too. Might look at a Bassman too.

Just an update. I played through this 1973 Super Reverb and bought it on the spot. It's clean like a closet classic and was black faced about 20 years ago. Everything is right with the world and I am in tone heaven. I played this thing like 4 hours straight today.
