Hi,

I recently purchased a beautiful made in Mexico Telecaster at my local music store, but I am curious about what exact model it is?  It has an lite ash finish, black pick-guard, maple fingerboard, and says "Special Edition" on the back of the headstock.  The serial number is MZ8211273.

Can anyone help me figure this out? I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Bb

These are the only "special edition" category currently listed on Fender's site. http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0262000520

Have you looked through the other telecasters here? http://www.fender.com/products/index.php?bodyShape=Telecaster®&section=guitars

The MZ8xxxx serial number means it was made in 2008-2009

The guitar can be viewed at... http://bbstwittermediasite.posterous.co ... to-help-me

I did look at the Fender site pretty thoroughly. While there were a few possibilities, I don't think it was listed.

Thanks for the help so far, Bb

We need better quality, close up photos to help try and figure out what the guitar is. Close up of the bridge, neck plate, front and back of the headstock, neck, etc., and if possible, photos of the electronics under the pickguard.

Or you can e-mail the serial number to:

consumerrelations@fender.com

Thats right - until recently Fender never put up the specs of the FSR guitars. And even thought they do put some of them up now, they only keep them up on the site until the run has been completely sold out to dealers (not necessarily to consumers). They still don't put up specs of FSRs or Limited Editions done for single dealers (or even small groups of dealers).

Regarding your Tele - I'll just have to echo bluesky: we would need better photos, but the best thing to do is send your serial number to Fender's Consumer Relations dept.

I e-mailed Consumer Relations yesterday. I assume it will take some time for them to get back to me.

I took some more pictures. They are at... http://bbstwittermediasite.posterous.co ... to-help-me

I just changed the strings so looking at the electronics are out of the question for now.

Thanks for your thoughts thus far, Bb

Hey there wbraychak and all,
well...while I'm here......

First......don't hang your hat on Serial numbers. While we do try to keep them in "range", there's a variety of reasons that it doesnt always go like that. The main thing for us is that they track in our system.

The serial number given tracks back to the below specs......and i see that this particular tele was completed 2/22/11 and shipped 2/25/11.

Hope that helps.
Cheers,
rob

I think you're misreading the information Rob posted last year - that "2006 UPGRADE" in in the model name means that the guitar was based on the post-2006 (i.e. "2006 UPGRADE") spec version of the MIM Standard, not that it was made in 2006.

Does it strike anyone else odd that the only 'Unique Features' are the Special Edition Sticker and 'Vintage Styling' (whatever that means), on a 2006 upgrade..??

I can just see two Mgrs. @ Fender discussing it: "Hey... Marketing just called and said we don't have any Special Editions in the Lineup right now..."

Other guy: "Hey I know... Just slap some Special Edition stickers on those over there and call Marketing back..."

cheers!
