If you purchased your Tele in 2011 chances are it is long overdue for a string change. The strings you use should fit your playing style. If you are playing a lot of blues or other music where you are doing a lot of string bending you might want to stick with 009's. If you are more of a strummer you might want 10's or even 11's. Use the strings that feel right and suit your playing style, always making sure that your guitar is set up correctly.

My Baja came with .10-.46, in 2007. I now use Fender 150R Original Pure Nickel Electric Strings .10-.46 gauge. Try these and you'll thank me later.

I change my strings every 4-6 months. My hands don't sweat a lot and I wipe them down after playing.

GBlue. Do you use a whammy bar and still get 4-6 months?
Or is your axe a hardtail?

Oh. Wait. Don't all Telecasters come with a Bigsby?
Only some of them?
What do you think?
Maybe we need more opinons.
Maybe I should just read the thread.

Yeah I do get 4-6 months on all my guitars. Her's how to get this longevity.

1. My hands don't sweat much.

2. I wipe each string individually with a soft cloth.

3. I have too many guitars so no guitar gets too much play.

4. Fender and GHS strings are durable. I have used GHS for 30+ years. I tried Ernie Ball Slinkys but in the 90's I kept breaking high E strings. Never had that problem with GHS. The Fender strings are great they really really sound good. I can't find them in stores so I order from Amazon.

I also adjusted My tremelos on the Strats to be loose or floating and that seems to help; I only use 3 springs.

Considering longevity of strings . . . . .
Ever consider how locking tuners, locking nuts and/or locking bridges
may affect string life?

I don't think tremelo use affects string life. I have both a 2-point tremelo and locking tuners on my Strat Ultra and it doesn't affect the life of the strings. Sweat and resulting corrosion are the worse for strings. That may cause premature aging of the strings...otherwise high amount of guitar use, excessive bending, and just sweating on the strings in summer heat does help to age the strings. I don't live near the ocean, but exposing strings to excessive humidity will affect string life (adversely).

If you were to change the strings and leave it in a guitar case, those strings will not wear out and will last 6+ months.

Two ideas or questions:
1) You believe stretching the string with the tremolo system and using a whammy bar
does not shorten string life, right?

2) Leaving brand new strings on a guitar locked in a case,
will give the strings ability to last six months?
Are you stating the strings will lose "life" not being used for six months?

Thanks. Toppscore :)
