Thats awesome !! Looks great, hope it functions perfectly :D
side note, just personal opinion, I hate RotoSound strings,
they sound dead very soon after installing them, D'Addario for me.

How can you tell they are RotoSound strings?

Hola
Great job! I myself have drilled out, sanded, scratched, painted -basically done anything you could think of- to my guitars and I think it's great to do so. On one hand you get to know your instrument, which is very important, you learn about its resistance, its construction, the wiring, etc; and on the other hand you get a real unique looking and sounding guitar that ends up feeling like a son.

I own a Les Paul alternative -cheap, very cheap but works great- and i'm thinking of getting a thinline Tele.
I love the sound of the Tele american vintage thinline '72. I think the humbuckers and the semi-hollow body give that extra notch to the tone of the tele, but being used to the Gibson LP kind of setting I'm not sure if should buy JA-90 thinline or the '72
I played both on my town Fender dealership, and I enjoy the 22 fret on the Jim Adkins design, but I'm worried it might be too noisy

Be glad to get any response.

and again, congratulations on the bigsby instalation, it looks great

as much as i like my JA90, its not perfect. the guitar really only has 1 sound - the controls dont affect the tone much, and the sound between pickup positions is also very similar, kind of a one trick pony. somebody else on here has replaced the pots on his JA90 and says its like a totally new guitar, its soemthing i would look into if i used the guitar enough. maybe even a pickup swap. the P90's are quite noisy, but they sound nice.

the number of frets is never something that would factor into whether a buy a guitar or not. the LP style hardware also didnt really make a difference to me over my 2 other teles. the JA90 has a shorter LP length scale as opposed to the longer fender scale, but even that i have to say i dont really notice.

i would guess that the 72 thinline sounds better, is going to be built better etc. but vale for money, the JA90 is supreme. quality wise i cant pick out anything other than the pots that are $@!&. the finish is nice, the frets, neck etc are all great.

having played both, you need to go with what you think. but dont let your LP copy sway your opinion towards thinking you need to get something familiar. i have a strat, a 62 custom tele, a 72 custom tele, and the JA90, and its no hardship switching between them.

just to add, i was specifically after a thinline but my budget only stretched to a MIM thinline. however the MIM reissues didnt interest me enough, especially as the hardware is quite similar to my 72 custom tele. i was looking at the modern player thinline, and its very nice at the price, and i would have had one had i not stumbled upon the JA90 by chance. the number of features not normal on a tele are what drew me to it. the pups, set neck, thinline with natural finish and bridge all peaked my interest.

I have a Classic Series 72 Thinline RI (MIM) and I really like the fat neck on this guitar. The MIA Vintage 72 thinline has a C-shaped neck and the MIM Classic 72 thinline has a D-shaped neck. Looking on Fender's site right now, it appears that the american model has been discontinued - I don't see it as part of the American Vintage Series anymore: http://www.fender.com/products/americanvintage

I have never seen the American Vintage 72 thinline in person, would be curious as to how different the neck feels. But it costs $800 more than the Classic 72 thinline ($1,650 vs $850), that's quite a difference and is the main reason I went with the Classic 72.

But the pickups aren't so great on the Classic 72 thinline, they cut off all the high frequencies and sound kind of dead to me. I am using a 10 band graphic EQ though, and that helps a lot with this problem. Have heard that the MIA version has better pickups, but have not been able to actually compare personally.

I also have a Modern Player Thinline Deluxe which is made in China. For $400 it is quite impressive. It has P-90's and I really like their sound - much brighter than my 72 thinline. It has a C-shaped neck with a 9.5" radius which is fine. But I keep coming back to my 72 thinline because the neck just feels more comfortable to me. http://www.fender.com/products/modernpl ... ine-deluxe

It is certainly an attractive guitar though, here's mine. :)

Thanks for your opinion. Anyway I do like the tone on the JA-90, but have read on other forums that it comes with wiring 'issues'. I'm still thinking of getting it, but perhaps change the pots, I don't think its a pickup problem. After all, the P90's sound great.
The thing is that one pursuits for a versatile guitar to play live without having to spent too much time setting the EQ between songs, and if that isn't the case with the JA90, if you say it only has one sound, i'll have to spent a little more and go for the 72 custom tele or something like that.

is there any sort of 72 custom semi hollow tele?

Sorry. I did not notice the "classic"
Thought you were debating a real 1972 Thinline.
