I recently bought a 2006 Telecaster Deluxe. I am trying to figure out if it is all original. It has virtually no playing wear but there are a couple of things that appear odd on the guitar. These include:

1) an unbound body with no back contour (like a standard tele body)
2) a standard rectangular neck plate rather than the cut away plate normally seen
3) no S1 switching

I have seen pictures of what are said to be 2006 deluxe teles that show characteristics 1 & 2 above when I google "2006 telecaster deluxe images" so I think that some deludes were made with unbound bodies. However, I have not been able to find an example of a deluxe from this period that did not have S1 switching. Can anyone shed light on this?

BTW I also recently bought a American Standard HSS start from the same period that HAS S1 switching in it. It is all original! So who knows?

Does the guitar have an abalone-inlaid neck?

Seems that someone had put a Deluxe neck into an American Standard body...

The ash-bodied American Deluxes do have unbound, uncontoured bodies but they would still have the S-1 switching and the noiseless pickups (SCNs from 2004-2009, N3s on 2010 to present).

Again photos are a must to figure out what you have.

Pre-2004 Deluxes had contoured bodies and bound top no matter the tonewood employed for, either it's select alder or premium ash.

True; I forgot to mention that. The American Deluxe Ash Tele didn't become a separate model until the 2004 update and that is when they went to the body without binding and contours. Since the OP has what is supposed to be a 2006 I didn't think it was necessary to go into details on the pre-2004 models.
