It seems to me that if an eBay seller wanted to make bank on guitar parts, one way would be to part out an excellent condition trade in and sell the parts as new pull offs. You usually only get 50% and sometimes less on your trade in so if the profit margin is better than hanging the complete guitar in a shop on the used rack then they figure, "why not?".

Interesting, and I am in contact with Fender on this subject,
and not regarding Stratosphere. But, the situation with Stratosphere
is that most all of their loaded pick-guards, loaded bodies and full necks
are NEW Fender parts and 100% Fender. Plus, if you add the price of a
loaded Fender Body and a licensed Fender neck, the price is higher than buying
a complete guitar from a Fender dealer. I've interest in some of their bodies.
We shall see. Stratosphere does not claim a relationship with Fender.
But, Stratosphere is the only one that came to mind for me, personally.
I emailed Fender and they wanted to know more. So, I'll just let it ride.
Very interesting to me. Toppscore :)

I think there are so many parts on eBay for many reasons, among them being:

Many people want to mod a guitar in one way or another and need new parts. In the process they often put the parts they're replacing back on eBay to recoup a bit of the cost.

Also sometimes people (such as myself) might have a guitar that has been modded and want to bring it back to how it originally was.

And of of course sometimes people simply break something or wear something out on a guitar and need to replace that part/parts.

And then there's the huge partscaster hobbyist population that buys and sells parts as well.

Personally I think it's great there are so many vendors & parts to choose from. It's saved me a lot of money & allowed me to experiment with different guitars, amps, etc. It's a golden age for player/hobbyists. Before the internet & sites like eBay this was simply not possible as I'm sure some of you old timers remember. And of course cheap overseas labor contributes as well. :)

As to Stratosphere, his prices are so astronomical it amazes me he can stay in business. But then again he also offers many hard to find items so there's that. And I dont believe he has any relationship with Fender itself. I think he has a decent amount of working capitol and simply buys guitars from all over - eBay, CL, online vendors, wherever. I think he then simply parts them out and charges a hefty amount for his (often) hard to get parts.

If you are like me, you browse eBay from time to time checking out the various Tele's offered for sale. There are always a lot of necks and "loaded bodies" for sale. Whenever I see them I often wonder how they ended up as parts.

What are your thoughts on this?

Did the "loaded body" start out as a complete Tele and the neck broke/cracked? Or, are people buying just the body for resale? Parts and half guitars seem to dominate the guitar listings on eBay.
I'm just being curious, that's all.

Yes. Last month I asked the same question because Stratosphere offered
more than 1000(+) NEW Loaded FENDER Bodies. But, turns out apparently
that Fender does not sell them, that Stratosphere gets wholesale guitars
and "parts" them for extra profit.

Generally, if you add a new neck to the new loaded body, your costs will
be higher than buying a complete new guitar.

The most stolen car in the USA is a 1994 Honda Accord.
4 years in a row it has this distinction. Why?
Not because of the value of the car as a whole but because of the individual parts.

Did you know that Honda Accord owners have the highest number of extremely forgetful persons?
Many OCD'd on forgetfulness?
That is why they bought a Honda in the first-second-third-fourth place . . . . .
they forgot their Accord was stolen the previous year
