Hello Ladies and Gents, I now am up to three American made Guitars, I have a 2006 American Standard Telecaster in Natural, A 2011 American Special Stratocaster in Candy Apple Red and last but not least is a 2011 Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom in Natural. My concerns are that I have nice Hercules Wall Hangers but I am hearing that they will ruin the finish on guitars, Is there something I could use to protect my guitars when they are being displayed on the wall hangers? I spent a lot of time hanging these things in my jam room and now I am afriad to use them?????

Thanks to all!!

The issue is the potential damage to nitrocellulose finishes caused by cetain types of foam rubber. Neither of your Fenders are finished in nitro. The Gibson, however, is. Hercules says this about their foam:

"Is SFF (Special Formulated Foam) safe for Nitrocellulose lacquer finish?

As a professional stand manufacturer, HERCULES goes to great lengths to provide the highest quality and the most secure stands. HERCULES had conducted numerous experiments on our SFF foam and is pleased to find that it does not react with most of the guitar finishes in the market, including Nitrocellulose. The tests included subjecting the instruments on the stand to heat, cold and normal temperatures for periods of up to six months without movement.

However, each manufacturer has their own formulation of Nitrocellulose, with differing proportions of the chemicals involved. There are literally thousands of different variations of lacquer in use today, making it impossible to test them all. Therefore, to provide your valuable guitars with the best support, we recommend you to refer to your instrument's owners manual for more information regarding the proper storage of your instrument."

Some people replace the foam with strips of white cotton wrapped on the hanger.

I have all of my electric guitars on wall hangers, a Jeff Beck Signature Strat, a 2002 American Standard Tele and a Gibson ES-335 Dot Reissue and there are no issues whatsoever.

I do have the black sock protecting the ES-335. :)

Again, the issue is potential damage to guitars finished in nitrocellulose. Neither of your Fenders are finished in nitro. Not sure about the 335, but it probably is nitro.

Yep the 335 is finished in nitro and I'm not taking any chances. I've seen the "burn" and it's irreversible I believe.

Hercules hangers are just fine and you dont need to put a sock on for your Gibsons. I own three Gibsons and have been using these hangers for over 7 years with no problems. I also have two Fenders that have nitro overspray and they are also fine. Just make sure you screw into a stud or do something like I did and mount it to some wood.
