Several weeks ago I purchased a new Blacktop Baritone Tele and I love the sound. I am having a little trouble keeping it in tune so decided a new set of strings would help. I am told by several local (good) music stores that Fender does not have these strings currently available. Strings are .013, .017, .020 (not wrapped), .042, .052, and .065. I have seen several other sets out there but non match and are recommended for a longer scale length. Tele has a 27" scale length vs usual 29+. Any words of wisdom are appreciated. This guitar is a keeper and I want to get it set up and running.

surely the strings for longer scale trimmed down would work?

Yes, as long as the sting diameters are the same, the neck will have the same tension. The real issue is getting the right string diameters and if possible an unwound D string. (4th).
I really wonder why Fender does not have a set of these strings available since they are selling the guitar. Seems strange to sell a guitar that you can't easily buy replacement strings for.

Perhaps they are coming.

There is no reason that either of these two sets could not be used. Your guitar has a truss rod just like every other electric guitar. Adjust it to compensate for the change in string tension. No different than going from a set of 9's to 10's (or vice versa) on a regular guitar.

The difference here is that I was trying to keep the D string unwound. The D'Adderio sets are both wound. But thanks for the help. It is probably my only current choice until Fender decides to supply strings for the guitar they are selling. Kind of a strange situation.

I have tried several sets including the D'addario set and have found when tuned b to b that they do not have enough tension. There must be a better alternative available.

Sounds like we have a Fender produced problem. Wish someone from Fender would respond to the question. Fender must have some string as they put them on the guitars. I really love my Fender guitars ( now own 4) but this is a letdown.

I have sent an email to them and await a reply....they put strings on it so there must be some available. I honestly don't know how folks are playing these with other strings tuned B2B, way too much slop for me. :(

Thanks. Other than the string issue I am really loving the guitar. I have a Baja Tele without the body contour and it really cuts into my scrawny sides. This new body is great. I did have some problem with intonation and tuning on the D & F# strings (seemed to stick a little) but mostly resolved them.
Hope we can solve the string issue.

I find it difficult to see the problem . I can't see why Bluesky636's answer is not good enough . It might depend on the relatively short scale-length . Then you just should compensate with as thick strings as possible - meaning an unwound 4th string is out of question. My only experience with baritones is my Danelectro- which has got a 29,96'' neck. But this is tuned from A2A , which works great w .014s. Looking forward to hear your solutions , guys :)

I've tried Elixir Baritone strings and they were too loose tuned B2B, better with C2C but that's not what I want. Right now I have D'Addario XL Regular light 7 string .059-.013 on it and they also are too loose. The factory strings had quite a bit more tension on them at B2B. I decided to try out the Elixir set and mistakingly cut two of the factory strings short when I was trying to work them through the bridge/body holes, otherwise I would just put them back on.
I have a Hellcat VI, a Jazzmaster and too many basses....never had a string problem. However, the baritone is new to me so perhaps I'm missing something. Searching the net reveals others seem to be having the same problem :(

From Fender:

"Thanks for writing in! Here is the part number for the set we are using. You can order this through any Fender parts dealer, they are Fender USA NPS, P/N 073-0250-412, (Gauges .013, .017, .020 (PL), .042, .052, .065) Tuned to B. "

Wonderful !!! I thought there had to be a simple solution. I will get to my local guitar shop and have them order me some. Glad we got this resolved. Thanks SpitfireMkl !
