Hey guys- ive got a early nineties mexican tele. recently i noticed a drastic difference in the volume of the neck and bridge pickup. its almost like i cant overdrive the sound on the bridge, but when i switch to the middle or neck pickups, the sound is rich and full and overdriven as its always been. its a tad hard to explain but it just seems the output of the bridge is drastically lower than that of the neck or combo of both. i havent changed the pickup height or anything like that since i got the guitar over a year ago, and this is a recent problem. is it possible that the pickup just went bad all of a sudden??? i can replace the pickup if thats the case, but i dont know how to tell being as i dont have a multimeter. any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks

B

Firstly I'd try altering the pickup height, eventhough you haven't purposely altered it there may have been some pressure on it at some point that has made a difference.

Then if that didn't make a difference I'd check the wireing to see that all salder joints were good and check that there have been no breaks in your wires.

Then if none of that solved my problem I'd have to ask someone who knew more than me about this stuff. I may try another pickup when I get this far in the process and if that didn't solve the problem then it's possibly a switch or other components that are at faould.

Just take it bit by bit step by step and let us know how it turns out.

Good advice from sjlen,

Unscrew the chrome plate , look the wiring , coming from this pickup is not "half " broken. Or solder need to be reheat ?
Is your switch is noisy ? noisy = dirty or bad contact = poor connexion.

A multimer could be a good buy , it is always usefull in a home.
Yes a pickup could be sundenly be bad , the very small wire used to make a coil can start to break giving too much resistance lowering output.
