Wouldn't this be covered under warranty?

The nut is one area of the guitar that is not covered by warranty, though I personally think that if it comes out of the factory wrong then whatever part it is it should be covered.

So in my case they did the repair (rather than putting a new nut on the guitar as I had requested), and they reminded me that it wasn't covered by warranty, trying to make out that they were doing me a favour though I'd just spend £1,400+ on this new guitar (about three times the price of the Antigua).

If you are the original owner, it should be under warranty.
Unless the nut is like car breaks that are not covered because of usage.
Are you the original owner? Toppscore 8)

I am telling you. I have really turned my head around regarding
my "old" opinion of the Antiqua painted guitars ~ via this thread. Thanks.

I based my "old" opinion upon the following below two 1978 Telecasters. They have not
sold and have been listed and relisted for over two years. Some may think these
two Teles look good, but, I did not. Your's is totally beautiful. Take care. Toppscore :)

That '78 Tele Custom in Antigua is kind of a microcosm of what can happen with that finish - the pickguard, being a vinyl overlay on plastic, stayed gray while the finish on the body yellowed over time and turned it from a more grayburst to kind of a snotburst. Some of the 70s ones really yellowed, while others stayed more true to the "from the factory" gray. I guess time will tell if these new FSRs yellow out.

Also if I'm remembering correctly those MIJ Antiguas from a few years ago copied the finish after it had yellowed, not as it would have come from the factory. The new MIMs are as I remember seeing these in a shop back in '79.

The shop I got my first Fender from (Durlauf's Music in Louisville KY - RIP circa 1988) was also a Gibson dealer. At one point in the fall of '79 they had a little display set up with an Antigua Strat, an Antigua P-Bass, and a Silverburst Les Paul Custom. If that doesn't scream "late 70s" I don't know what does!

Are you saying the two 1978 Telecasters are MIJ?
If not, when did Fender start shipping MIJ guitars?

Yes, it is interesting how some colors, paints and pigment change.
I just sold my 1982 Fender Telecaster (MIA )
The first EBay buyer bought it and declared it was repainted. Jerk.
That there was some RED overspray. Jerk.
So, I gave him a full refund. Jerk.

As soon as I relisted the Telecaster with a higher Buy-It-Now price. Someone snagged
it up. I warned that the guitar is not oversprayed or repainted, but there are two light
pastel pinkish spots. They cannot be rubbed out. I believe the primer or paint reacted
with the wood or something or some combination there-of. Checking back, the buyer
said it's the best guitar he'd ever owned. He's a serious pro musician in the NorthWest.

Check pictures #2 (backside upper left) and #3 around the cavity hole. The cavity hole
pink was covered up by the control panel. I really never noticed the backside pink.

No, I'm not saying the 1978s you posted are MIJ; they are of course USA made as USA production is all Fender had until the 1980s. I was referring to an FSR run of Antigua instruments Fender had in the mid-2000s (maybe 2006 or 2007) that were made in Japan. The 2012 MIM run is more how I remember the original 70s instruments looking fresh from the factory while that 2007-ish MIJ run was more like how the finishes had aged to a greener color over time.

Regarding your Tele you sold - that discoloration was likely just some interaction with the environment like rub-off from the case or some oxidation of the electronics (for the area around the plate); I've seen some Strats where there is a lot of discoloration on the pickguard around the switch.

Hey everyone, thanks for the feedback.

I got the tele back saturday afternoon with a new nut and haven't been able to put it down since. This guitar sounds great, plays great and I think i'm in love :)

All is well that ends well I guess, was initially frustrating to not be able to play the guitar. But it has proven to be worth the wait, without a doubt.

Hi, John!
The Telecaster is sadly sold, so my discoloration concern is less.
The second buyer loves it.

Regarding the discoloration, at first, we thought that it WAS from the case's red interior.
But, the gloss and blonde coats were "over" the the faded blush. and, there is the
discoloration under the control plate. I could be wrong, but I feel (as you mentioned)
that there was a chemical interaction with the raw wood and some of the initial coats.
Maybe the raw wood had something that "seeped" or there was an unseen foreign element.
Thanks for your comments, John C. Toppscore :)
