Hello all, I just picked up a nice 06 American Standard Telecaster in Natural finish in perfect condition ! Sweeeeeet! , I want to restring it and am concerned about size. Should I stick to the .011 or can I go to a .010 ? I use the .010's on my 2011 American Stratocaster and my 2011 Les Paul and would like to stay with the same size. Will changing size effect the the way the Bone is cut for .011's? Any help will be appreciated! 8)

Usually American Standards come with .009s from the factory - did the prior owner take it up to .011s? They probably did do a little nut work to go from .009s to .011s, but going back down to .010s shouldn't be an issue unless they cut nut slots too low or too wide for even the .011 set (like they widened it for .013s or something like that).

My other guitar (besides my Tele) is a Collings 290 - it's a set neck kind of like a Les Paul Special but with a 24 7/8" scale (like some fingerstyle acoustics). Collings sets up their electrics from the factory with .011s. I have a repetitive stress injury in my left hand so I play .009s on my 25 1/2" scale guitars and I play a "hybrid" set on shorter-scale instruments that goes from .009 to .046 (the plain strings are same as a .009 set and the wound strings are the same as a .010 set). I've had no issues going down from a normal .011 set on that guitar to the .009-.046 set.

i used to change my string sizes all the time as i always forgot what i was replacing. the only time i ever had a problem was trying to fit .13's to a '62 custom tele, the thickness of the low E broke the nut.
