Hey guys.

I was pondering some things about my tele.

The serial# is: EE 071101696
What year were these buildt? I googled a bit and it seems the EE prefix on the serial number is an export version from the late eighties. Is it possible to decode the serial number in some way?

Bought it cheap for a guy, and I've had it professionally set up. Plays and sound really good. I'm using a vintage Fender Pro Reverb amp from the seventies that I also aquired cheap, in case anyone was wondering (probably not).

Here are some pictures:

Fake - no USA Fender ever had a truss rod hole like that; they all have walnut plugs (even the modern Fenders with truss rod access at the headstock). No USA Fender ever had that type of Gotoh tuners except the HM Strats of the 1980s.

Fender wasn't doing the '72 Tele Thinline reissue in the 1980s; it was dropped by CBS/Fender in 1982 and didn't come back as a USA model until last year. There were MIJ and later MIM reissues, but they had accurate necks (with the bullet truss rod adjuster) and clearly said they were "Made in Japan" or "Made in Mexico".

There are other issues, like the bridge, pickguard, body - basically everything is "off". If it plays well and was cheap then it wasn't a bad deal. If you payed the price for a USA then it needs to go back because it is definitely a fake.

Aw, that saddens me, I thought I had struck gold. :-(

Anyways, it plays good and I'll keep it, at least for a while.

Thanks
