Recently bought this Special Edition '52 RI. Essentially a special edition of 60 produced for AIMM members. Standard '52 specs, but with double bound body & flamed maple top/back. Now here's my problem (prepare to insult me): it's my first/only Tele and it's so dang pretty and sort of collectible, I'm afraid to play it and get playing wear, etc. on it. It's mint except for a very small amount of light pick scratches on the pick guard. I almost wish I'd bought a beater Tele, I wouldn't be so afraid to mess it up.

Go buy a beater if your really worried about it, otherwise play it like it's meant to be played and don't worry about it.

Play it! Remember folks pay lots of money for the Mojo of you playing it and getting the odd ding, dent, or scratch.

It is a beauty, but worthless if you never play it. Just remember to play it and not abuse it!

That really is a good looking guitar! Congrats on your purchase.

If it was me I'd play it.

I have quite a few guitars, I play most of them quite a bit and never get any scratches or dings on them. I don't play them any special way, but I do take care of them when picking them up and putting them down. I don't swat flies with them, don't use them as golf clubs and only polish them about once a year (if they're lucky), and they all look like they are brand new out of the box, some of them are about seven years old now.

Thanks! I've been on the road and haven't played it as its back home in its case. I keep going back and forth on whether to sell it or not. I think I'll keep it, but it may end up on The Gear Page or EBay soon. I'm hoping to honestly bond with it some when I get home. I'm afraid I'm realizing I'm more of a Strat guy than I thought. Breaks my heart, honestly.
