Hi i am having my 2005 American standard telecaster replaced by fender on a warranty issue (I'll post another thread why) they are as they usually do going above and beyond and sending me a brand new 2012 American standard with the upgraded pick ups and I guess the contour, the contour I'm sort of mixed about but no big deal, but i have read up on the new pick ups and i hear stuff like "strat like" which makes me nervous i loved the sound and tone of my 2005 in every way, when they said they were replacing it with a 2012 American standard i assumed the tone would be pretty much the same, I'm a little concerned and would love to hear your opinions on this, will my new telecaster sound like my old telecaster ?

You could send your serial number to Fender Customer Service and ask them to tell you what you had in your original Tele. Then ask them what they are sending you with the new Tele and see if they are to your liking. Maybe ask for the same as what you had.

I wouldn't want a "strat like" Tele. I'd rather have a Tele sounding Tele! :)

Ahhh theres a twisted tele in the neck and a broadcaster in the bridge, these pickups could not be MORE telecaster if they tried. Both pickups designed in the fender customshop

Mate, between your 2005 to this 2012 you're getting, you're going to be blown away.

I've seen a Fender Custom Shop video on YouTube where Mike Eldred discussed a Custom Shop Telecaster that had Twisted Tele pickups installed. Mr. Eldred indeed described the Twisted Tele pickups as "more Strat-like". He played the guitar and it sure did have a Strat quality to the sound, particularly on the neck pickup.

That's not the sound I want for my Tele but the Twisted Tele pickups do seem to be extremely popular!

True - but for the updated American Standards it is only the neck pickup that is the Twisted Tele; the bridge pickup is the Broadcaster pickup so at least the bridge should have the vintage Tele sound (or as much as it can have without the vintage-style Tele bridge).
