Hi guys

I bought a USA deluxe tele in February and I love it, It plays great and looks fantastic.

When I first changed the strings the low E ferrule fell out and probably needs gluing. I emailed fender UK about it and they said that was the way to fix it and I put it down to the transportation from the states and changes in temperature making it not fit securely. Still it was a little disappointing for a deluxe instrument.

Yesterday I was giving the guitar some TLC and whilst cleaning it in the natural light I noticed that the paint doesn't quite meet the binding on the top right of the guitar. I am gutted! In the shop there was very little natural light and I looked all over it looking for marks, dinks and issues like this but I missed it to say that I feel like a twat is an understatement. The picture below makes it look massive, however from a normal distance it is harder to make out.

Image

I can safely say that I would not have bought it had I noticed it (I'm a bit of a perfectionist).

I am very disappointed that a deluxe instrument that I paid a premium for had these two issues, The Ferrule I was willing to leave as it made no massive difference to me but this paint issue is playing on my mind. I can't stop looking at it now I have found it.

I love the guitar, it plays great but I paid a lot of money for this baby (To me anyway) and I wouldn't expect it.

But maybe I am overreacting and I was the one who missed it in the shop so I hold a lot of the responsibility :(

Sorry for the rant but I feel a bit glum about it. I have emailed fender UK and I am waiting on their response. They have been great when I have contacted them in the past so I hope they can help me.

Tom

My day is getting better!!

Just heard from Fender UK, very quickly I might add, that they will replace the guitar at no cost to me!

That's what I call superb customer service :D

Chuffed to bits and big thank you to Fender.

I hope it plays as good as my current one.

Tom

That's great news! Once you find a fault with guitar, it is nearly impossible to ignore it, and Fender are making it right!
In the past, I have found Fender's customer service to be first rate! Enjoy the new guitar when you get it! :)

Hi Butterscotch

Thank you for the reply I can't wait now to get the new one.

I have got nothing but praise for Fender.

The reassurance of knowing that any issues will be dealt with if possible is great. Other companies could learn an awful lot from them.

Tom - regarding the string ferrules - I wasn't aware that Fender was now gluing them in; I thought they were just set into the guitar and sometimes they stick to the finish. I've had 2 Teles over the years (an MIM Classic 50s and an AV '52) plus I still have my first "good" guitar - a '79 Lead II. On all of them at least 2 of the 6 ferrules came out when I changed the strings. Unless this is a recent change for Fender to glue them in it's just kind of luck of the draw and you may find the same issue on your replacement Tele.

I don't imagine that Fender actually glues in the ferrules when they make the guitar. The finish normally holds them in, but if one does drop out later on (I had this with a Japanese Telecaster many years ago) the easy fix is a little wipe of wood glue, and then it's good! :)

WOW, that is a pretty clear incomplete finish. Awesome that Fender is handling it the way it should be handled. Hopefully the new one plays as nice as this one!

Hi guys

Sorry I should have been clearer too much rambling on my part

When I spoke to Fender they said that they normally make the holes slightly smaller than the ferrules so that they stay securely in the guitar.

As mine was just falling out they suggested the only way to sort it out if I wanted to was to glue it in with wood glue.

Its good to know that it is common and if it happens again I wont worry about it. As I said I was happy to leave that on the guitar but the paint finish was the killer! I'm amazed that I didn't notice it sooner. I was enjoying the guitar too much :D

Thanks for responding - I love this forum, you find out so much information!!!

Yeah in fairness its not quite so noticeable from a "normal distance"...well thats my excuse anyway!

It is pretty bad but luckily Fender have come to the rescue and I couldn't be happier. That's how you keep customers coming back especially in a recession.

I can't wait to get my hands on the new guitar. I'm going to get another chance to excitedly open the box and see a brand new guitar! I'll be like a little kid at christmas :D

Fender UK said they would set it up and check it closely to ensure that it gets to me perfectly! You cannot ask for more.

Whilst fender should have picked it up in QA before it left the store, have you seen how the take the paint off the binding? Hand scraped with sharp razor blade, its not unimaginable that something like that could happen.

Props for the quick turnaround though

That sounds like hard work - Something I wouldn't be able to do with my shaky hands! :D

Hi guys

I thought I would give a little update.

I headed into central London this morning to pick up my replacement Deluxe Telecaster. For the first time ever I got the open the box to see a brand spanking new guitar. It was a cool feeling. It came out of the box fully tuned and well set up. The guys at Fender UK did say that they would select a great guitar and get it set up properly before sending it to the shop and they were true to their word!

It feels a little different than my original guitar but I am getting used to it. It still plays really well though even with my shoddy playing :D . The red finish is more pronounced which I really like and what can I say I've been well looked after by Fender.

Here are two pictures but I just took them this evening and the flash didn't help with the quality.

A massive thank you to Fender I really, really appreciate it!

Thats great that they took care of it that fast. Thats the way it should be. Its also very sad to know that they don't inspect the deluxe like we feel they should. By the way thats a beautiful tele.

Thanks guys! Had a good little play on it last night mostly without an amp (Young baby in the flat) and it was great...

Although I was doing scale work which got a bit tedious as the night went on but it is necessary.
