Hi. Has anyone ever experienced owning one of the following:
1) Fender Telecaster Plus
2) Fender Telecaster Plus Deluxe
3) Fender Telecaster Ultra

I have only seen a few. They will have the Lace Sensor Pickups,
LCR roller nuts and several other "different" features".
I believe they were produced between 1989-1999.

Have you owned one/played one?
What do you think?
Better or worse than other 1990s Telecasters?

PLMK. Thank you. Toppscore

Toppscore - first off while I didn't own one my cousin had a really nice version 2 Tele Plus that I got to play a couple of times - the version 2 had the "Nashville" set-up with a Strat-type Lace Sensor in the middle position. Unfortunately that guitar was long ago sacrificed to his other vices but I remember it being a really nice playing Tele that kind of had a beefier tone than say a Strat Plus but was in that same ballpark given that it had the gold-logo (vintage 50s voiced) Lace Sensors.

The Tele's didn't actually have comparable models to the Strats of that era; here are the models that I remember being around:

Tele Plus version 1 - call it 1989-1995 production - these had a blue logo Strat-sized Lace Sensor in the neck position and a dual red-logo Lace Sensor in the bridge position (same as was used in the Strat Ultra). There was an added 3-way mini-toggle on the control plate to work the dual Lace. These had sealed tuners (like an American Standard) and had the same bridge as a hard-tailed American Standard Strat. I can recall seeing one of these new in a store that had a blue/red dual Lace instead of the more common red/red dual Lace. These also had either ash bodies or (like the Strat Plus Deluxe) alder bodies with ash veneers. The 3-4 of these I remember picking up in stores back then were pretty heavy guitars.

Tele Plus Deluxe - take the Tele Plus version 1 and add the Strat Plus trem, Wilkinson roller nut, and the Fender/Schaller locking tuners. Like the Strat models this one also changed to the LSR nut in mid-late 1993.

Tele Plus version 2 - late 1995 - 1997 production - Fender changed up the guitar with the "Nashville" pickup configuration and a 5-way switch. These had a Tele-sized chrome covered neck Lace Sensor, a Strat sized chrome covered middle Lace Sensor, and a black covered Tele-sized bridge Lace Sensor - all 3 are gold-logo Laces. This version uses the American Standard Tele bridge with the long plate. There is an added mini-toggle on the control plate that combines the neck and bridge pickups in positions 1 and 5 and gives you all 3 pickups in postions 2 and 4. This version had binding on the top of the body and a contour on the back - features they still use on the American Deluxe Teles.

Fender did not do a Tele Plus Deluxe with the version 2 of the Tele Plus, nor did they do a Tele Ultra model.

I've never put the info down into a blog or site or anything but I've been tracking Fender models and changes personally since the 1980s. I just didn't stick to only one line like Zhefri or the person who put together the site on the early USA-built reissues.

Yes - long story short there was never a Tele Ultra (although there was a CS-built 40th Anniversary Tele in 1992 that would have served as a "Tele Ultra"; those are very rare as only a few were built).

There were two versions of the Tele Plus - original ran from 1989 to 1995; it was replaced by version two in late 1995 and discontinued when the American Deluxe Tele came out in early 1998.

There was only a Tele Plus Deluxe during the 1989-1995 time frame of the first version of the Tele Plus and the only difference between the "regular" Plus and the Plus Deluxe was that the Plus was the hard-tail model and the Plus Deluxe had a trem.

Well, after investigating the Stratocaster & Telecaster Plus,
Plus Deluxe and the Strat Ultra guitars, I purchased the above Strat Ultra.
I believe it is a 1990 Fender Stratocaster Ultra.

I had a real hard look at the Telecaster Plus & Telecaster Plus Deluxe guitars.
I will share more on the Stratocater section. Thanks again. Toppscore.

I had an '89 Tele Plus Deluxe.

Image

I sold it to an up and coming young rock star about 8 years ago because he wanted something out of the ordinary and convinced me to sell it to him but his fortune and fame never came to be and now he won't sell it back to me. Little bugger. :x

That is a real nice looking Tele.
I like the darker color tones.
What would he take for it?

He tells me it's not for sale at any price, ever.

No problem not wanting to sell it.
But, it is the tone and the way it can be expressed.

The door is open after all these years of grieving
to find a new life partner and enjoy the new relationship.

There are groups for grieving guitarists

What city do you live in? Maybe I can hook you up?

LOL!! I have a wonderful Tele already, thanks. It actually sounds and feels better to me than the Plus Deluxe did. I wish I could have it back only because it is unusual. It's not very often you see a production run Tele with a (non Bigsby) trem and a trembucker and a roller nut and locking tuners. If I wanted one bad enough I could always go the Warmoth route.

Here is a cool one I'm trying to value for someone. I think it's Crimson burst. Can anyone confirm it for me? Also any idea on resale value. It's in brilliant condition. No marks, dings, scratches etc. Image

@John C

Did the Tele Plus Deluxe ever came or not with the Fender Deluxe Locking Tremolo (aka MINI FLOYD ROSE)?

Hi chrome - no, I don't believe they ever did come with that bridge, just the regular 2-post trem found on the American Standard and Strat Plus. I don't think these even had the snap-in arm version found on the Strat Plus Deluxe. In fact until I saw a photo online of a Tele Plus Deluxe with the LSR nut recently I had just assumed that the Tele Plus Deluxe was discontinued around the time Fender switched to the LSR and started using the mini-Floyd.

In fact I rarely saw any Tele Plus V1s in a store after about 1993, and I also never found a V2 in any store in my area (call in Louisville KY, Lexington KY, and Cincinnait OH). My cousin probably got his out of Chicago since he was in northern Indiana.

EDIT: Well I had it reversed - per chromeface's post below these did have the snap-in arm Deluxe trem like the Strat Plus Deluxe, not the regular trem. I still don't think these migrated to the mini-Floyd, but I also believe that very, very few Tele Plus Deluxes were made after Fender transitioned to the LSR nut and offering the mini-Floyd.

Deluxe Tele Pluses always came with a snap-in tremolo arm.
