Was never really of a telecaster fan till I heard the tone from this guitar.I always thought the tele was more for country sounds. Heard it has a chunky neck, & I'd like that too, probably helps for that chunckier tone? Wish I could get one with a rosewood board? Love the blonde color.
Never seen one at any of the guitar centers in cleveland or akron area.
Wondered what owners thought of these guitars.
I've had a couple of strats in my life time. I know many a rocker have played tele's too....

It might make a difference what amp your playing through. But with the "U" shaped neck, no bridge plate (the pickup is screwed to the body), brass saddles and the special wiring it probably should sound a little "chunkier" than the normal Tele sound. At least according to G.E. it does.

What is a GE Smith Telecaster? Not familiar with him, but see
that he plays with some famous bands.
What years were/are the GE Smiths made?
What makes it different than normal guitars?
Do you like it?

The G.E. Smith Tele is based on old Fender lap steel mojo. They started making them in 2007 and are still in production. They run about $2,400 retail. Other than the U shaped neck, special wiring, bridge pickup attachment and stock brass bridge pieces. It's still a "Tele".

I've only played one in a music store, so I really don't have any major experience with one. Unless I got a real good deal, I wouldn't go out of my way to find one.

G.E. used to be the band leader on "Saturday Night Live" for years and had played with pretty much everyone and his dog at some point. There's a good video @ You Tube on the G.E. Smith Tele, gives you the whole rundown.

I bought an early production G.E. Smith Telecaster, in blonde, and the only change I made was to Allparts compensated brass saddles. I'm five years into owning it, and of my three teles, it's the best sounding one by far.

Thanks for the info.
If one wanted to study playing electric slide guitar,
would the GESmith Telecaster be a good candidate?

Is not the GESmith based upon steel string guitar sounds?

PLMK. Thank you. Toppscore 8)
