I want to put an SD Vintage in the neck of my 2009 MIM Tele. I like the sound as it is the same PUP used in the '52 Hot Rod Reissue. Is the cavity already routed for a humbucker?

Step 1: Loosen strings

Step 2: Unscrew pickguard screws

Step 3: Raise pickguard slightly

Step 4: Peek underneath and your question will be answered

You would already know the answer by the time someone here tells you.

Should be or in fact is? I hope the OP follows my advice to confirm things before spending money on a pickup.

I'm having the same dilemma right here. I want to fit in a high-output humbucker in my Std. Tele's neck position. So I did remove the pickguard and guess what I saw? It's a cavity measuring 90mm x 44mm. After doing enough research, I found out this space is ample enough to fit any standard sized humbuckers.

Edit: The depth of the cavity is somewhere from 16-20mm. That's just an approximation, as it was a wee bit difficult to measure it using a standard one-foot plastic ruler.

it'll fit in the guitar alright, but make sure you

1) have a cutter ready to resize your pickguard or
2) purchase a new pickguard.

To fit the new sized pickup in there.
