Not specifically with the Jim Root but with the mexican strats. I had one and the frets were a bit too long ..had em filed down.

Fret buzz may mean a truss rod adjustment may need to be made. Fret edges can be filed, though on some of my Squiers, I either played them enough that the fret edges wore down, or once the necks became fully acclimated, they fattened up a bit and lined up with the previously sticking out edges. Depending on how long you've had the guitar and how bad the fret edges are scraping or cutting you, I would wait a little bit. My Squier frets edges were rough for a few months on a couple of them, then one day I pick them up, and all the hanging fret edges were no longer there...

I ordered my JR telecaster back in February as a special order, of course, and recently had it arrive last week. Roughly a two month wait which is fine because I am still paying for it via lay-a-way. I had a chance to play it though. On heck of a beautiful guitar. As far as I can tell on my guitar the frets are obviously jumbo. The ends are angled nicely and are fine. As soon as I pay off the guitar it will receive an instant in store set-up. I will use this guitar for standard tunings, will be my go to guitar for jamming around with bands and friends. I will probably put on D'Addario 11's on this guitar (.011-.049)

Basically I always wanted a maple neck fender telecaster. I was sold on the humbuckers right away as I wanted a guitar that can handle heavier rock.

btw...the black tweed guitar case that comes with the Jim Root guitar is just as beautiful as the guitar; awesome touch to a power horse guitar. That case is worth about $250.

No matter what guitar you buy, ALWAYS figure in the price of a fret dressing and setup. Most guitars will benefit from this, and IF the guitar arrives and doesnt need to have it done, you can look at it as "bonus money".

This comes from 30 years of teching and over 10 years working in music stores. Almost invariably a guitar WILL benefit from a good dressing / setup by a skilled luthier ...even Custom Shop guitars, if only for the reason that the luthier can set the guitar up for YOU and YOUR playing style.

Don't blame Fender... blame your dealers for not ordering more and sooner!

That maybe true but it is one hell of a guitar. It's a modern telecaster in every sense of the word. The Jim Root Tele is basically the now defunct Fender Flathead Tele. I've enjoyed this guitar very much since I got one a few weeks back. For what I play or like to play its what I've been looking for in a Fender. It may not be a classic but its a powerhorse.

The maple neck is very tele though. The body contour on the side is very strat like as well as the volume knob. The body through string holes are nice too. But, yes the EMG's do not at all create a normal tele sound; i'll be the first to admit that.
