What's probably best to do is to go and try one then you'll know first hand what they ar like and what they are good for.

Other alternatives include the Jim Root signature series, MIJ Contemporary, HM and Flathead models.

Both JR and FH Teles are fitted with a pair of EMGs.

The Squier JR uses passive humbuckers with solid covers.

I have a Japanese '52 style Tele, and it's a heavy metal machine. And it just has 2 single coils, it doesn't have humbuckers like the Blacktop. If I run it through my Digitech RP5 multieffects processor through compression, chorus, EQ, a bit of reverb, and a silencer, it sounds plain nasty. It has a nice raw ragged trebly sound on the bridge pickup. Palm muting sounds fantastic on the Tele. If my Tele sounds that good for heavy rock/metal, then a Blacktop should be even better.

And Mexican Fenders are great, and an excellent value. I have 2 of them, an Arctic White '06 Standard HSS and a Daphne Blue '10 '50s Classic Series and they're wonderful guitars. I did have an '09 Lake Placid Blue Standard HSS that I sold to my brother. I didn't really want to sell it as I love the guitar, but I had 2 HSS guitars and 2 LPB guitars so it was kind of a duplicate so I let it go. And besides, I can play it whenever I want to. Mexican Fenders feel, to my jaded hands, as good as some of the American Fenders that I've played. Some of the USA Fenders that I've played were inferior to my Mexicans (possibly a bad setup,) but the guitars I played just didn't feel or play as well. The hype about Mexicans being bad guitars is plain false. I'm sure Ensenada has built some bad guitars, as has Corona and every guitar factory on the planet, but the ones I've played have been terrific. Don't be afraid of them. Play one and if you like it, buy it. Don't worry about the country of origin. The Mexicans can really build guitars now. And the factory is state of the art. Not to mention that Fender makes models made in Mexico with no American equivalent, and offers way cooler colors than the dull colors of most American Fenders.

I played a Blacktop and really liked it. It looked badass in black with the black pickguard and the bling of the chrome pickup covers and Tele control plate. My brother wants one really badly, and will probably buy one in a couple of months. I'm sure I'll get to play it a lot, so I may do a review on here and the Tele forum when he gets it and I get to spend some time with it. Bottom line: if you have a good Mexican Fender, then you have a very good guitar that is close to if not as good as an American Fender.

i played it after in the shop i just got to wait until tomorrow for the shop to open again and i only played it on a crappy amp so it shoud sound alot better with my pedals and amp i can wait tomorrow ill be a proud owner of a fender telecaster it will be my 1st fender

ps:it can do metal really good in the bridge i like the middle postion (2 of the humbuckers) for clean and the neck is good for leads so IMO this guitar could do alot more then metal
