haha wow what the hell is that bubbly crap on your guitar ?

is it wet ? maybe some bug eggs or something ? either way it'd be coming straight off if it was mine haha, looks like something out of Aliens.

is it worth directly contacting fender, seen as the guitar is so rare and old ? they might have some info on the best way to look after it, might even be interested to hear about it. i would imagine 'restoring' it would decrease the value and pureness of the guitar, much like antiques. it looks like that because thats what its life has brought it. it is worn and battered because clearly your grandad loved to jam 8) . would be a shame to erase that history from it. it would only cost you a few hundred $ to get one that looked the same but brand new.

im pretty sure Corona is where the factory is, unless im greatly mistaken. if so, seems like too good an opportunity to miss.

Wow those are some very interesting er .. growth's .. on there that you have .. o.O

If you live near Corona, it seems like trying to get in touch with Fender is a good idea, especially given the age and history, and maybe they can advise you on the alien infestation :)

Good luck ! Be fascinating to hear more of this :)

That's a hell of a prize you've got there, it's quite valuable. I would not alter it in any way. If anything on it no longer functions (like controls or pick ups), replacing them to working order is fine, but keep the original parts, working or not. Put them up somewhere.

The guitar was made to be played. I'm sure that's why your grandfather gave it to you.
It'd be a shame just to store it, and not use it for the purpose it was created. It has family history from the years your grandfather used it, and you playing it will only add more family history to it.

Someday you can pass it on to your kids or grandkids.
