Hello everyone,

Years ago my grandfather left me a Fender Telecaster since i was the only musician in the family at the time and he thought i would appreciate it the most. It has sat in it's case for most of that time out of fear of doing anymore damage to it then the years he played it had already done. Today i took it out and started playing and honestly I'm amazed, even in the current condition it blows all of my other guitars away my $800 Ibanez and Esp don't even come close to the comfort and playability this thing has with only 3 strings on it at the moment haha.

My question According to some websites such as:

http://www.guitarnucleus.com

http://www.guitarattic.com

and of course http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... uct-dating

I believe my guitar to be between a 1953-1954 model due to the serial number Which i believe to be 3924 Because well that is what is stamped into the bridge plate I will provide pictures but can anyone tell me if My guitar is in fact a 50's Tele or if i am just wrong lol

Personally i love it no matter when it was made even if its beat up, well actually more because it is beat up haha

thanks in advance for any and all help.

The serial number would date it to 1954, but you might need to check the butt of the neck to see what's written or stamped there.
Looks like the old girl could do with a little TLC...unless the pics are just low-ish quality.

Good heavens .... in the old style 'thermometer' case too !

That's just the scenario that one might daydream about in idle moments .... but never would believe it might be true ... being gifted an amazing old Fender by an elderly relative.

I would recommend finding yourself a good luthier, and carefully bringing her back into playing condition, it's probably valuable as heck too, so 'sympathetic' is the word, and get her twanging again like she used to back in the day . Totally romantic !

What looks like a toggle switch on the upper bout is an odd thing, but that looks like a deliciously careworn piece of history. Chrome is very shiny on the pickup, ashtray and plate !

*Raises a glass to your grandfather*, you're a lucky guy :)

Would love to see some high res pics :)

Be carefull if you go to see a luthier. Be sure he is honest, some valuable parts on your guitar ( pickups) could be stolen . Anybody can put some reissue PU before returning the guitar.

This is a gem, too for the micro switch . Value is less.

But you have a fantastic guit. Keep it .

how are you even sure its a microswitch ??

obviously no routing on the front, possibly on the back i guess. hard to tell from the pics, looks really, really small for a switch though, could just be some crap stuck to the guitar, looks like chewing gum    so does that weird red stuff under the pickup plate.

thats some 50 year old Big Red gum

I agree with you , I'm not sure it is a micro switch. Maybe just a decorative pin ? I'm curious to see the back.

The cover could have been stowed away in the guitar case too which would have kept it out of harms way. The object in question looks more like a lepel pin of some sort glued on. Maybe he was a member of a lodge or something.

Hey guys,

I'm glad you guys appreciate the guitar so much. As far as going to a Luthier i always have my worries about letting others work on my guitars and i wouldn't dream of doing anything to it myself. I live very close to Corona California where I'm told there is a Fender shop i thought of taking it there for restoration but most people have told me it is better to leave it the way it is. Personally i would love to see it restored and as glorious as the day it left the factory.

sorry for the Image quality its my crappy phone's camera. there isn't a micro/ upper toggle switch :D moochy13 was the closest i have no idea what it is it looks horrible and i don't want to risk removing haha
