I just played one yesterday and it sounded awsome, the one i played needed some work on the frets they were a little sharp on the ends but sound was cool.

G'day Glock30, Mate exactly my thoughts on one I test drove at my local GC the other week.

I would get the fret ends sorted before gigging.

Also put a 1 ply black 5 hole Bakelite Pickguard on it.

Other than that, I'd say it's going to be a killer Tele :D

Thanks for your response..

only thing I don't like about the 50s road worn strats and teles is the fake looking over worn neck.

Kineman,
I have a 50's RW and I love it. It plays great, the neck is super smooth, and the finish on the guitar feels great. Here are a few pics of mine:

I am seriously considering getting a RW in the blonde finish and converting it to an Esquire. I've already bought the caps and resistor. Planning to make up a complete control plate, that way I only have to break and make a few solder joints to be in business.

I predict you're gonna love this one. Just got mine on Tuesday, and it is incredible. Wonderful worn feeling (closest "new" guitar to playing a vintage I've ever played) and the sound is wonderful, those Tex Mex p'ups give it a fantastic sound. I've had to make myself pick up one of my 4 Strats, and one of those is new too (a week earlier, my first MIM Fender). And the poor Les Pauls are languishing in their cases 8) .

Only con I've found, and I'm not even sure it bothers me, is a bit of dingy "aging" at the edge of the white pick guard (you're changing yours to black anyway, something I've considered but can't decide on), and the fret edges are a little rough (guessing not as bad as those referred to above, as I don't really even see the need to dress mine).

I'll post a few pics below, right after I comment on Rob's post below. Unfortunately, so far I only have some poor phone camera shots.

Rob, it would indeed make a very attractive Esquire. But IMO, it might not be the best Tele candidate for the job. Why? I think the neck p'up on this one is outstanding, sounds to me better than any stock Tele neck p'up I've tried (had I not liked it so much, I'd probably have gone "Keith" and installed a Humbucker there). But for mine, it's just too good sounding and will stay stock.

I see your point T Bone. Thought about just getting a Mexi standard; it would be less money. The blonde RW is the color I am looking for though. I plan on trying both the black and white Esquire pickgaurds to see which looks better.
