That is just so sweet! ebony fretboard, tv jones pups give awesome tone. Its definitely a tele in my book but it could easily be the offspring of a tele and a gretsch.....

Is that an original from 1972? Wow, please post some pics.

This is my reissue of that guitar, bought in 2010:

And BTW, for the thread, I definitely consider it a tele. A bit different, but I like that about it.

I recently picked up one of the GC Special Squire Tele's (used + dirt cheap, but killer) and it has dual humbuckers. I took out the stock p/u's and replaced them with the SD Invader knockoff's (Duncan Performer Detonators) solely for the 4 wire leads AND high output (bridge 16.9K both, 8K split) for coil tapping (I used a DPDT mini toggle (on/off/on) located between tone and volume, you could use a push/pull too if you didn't want to drill). On the DPDT switch, in position 1 you have the outside coils, in 2 you have humbucker and in 3 you have inside coils. I couldn't be happier with the spank and twang of those pickups! Picking close to the bridge when split is awesome and in middle position with the outside coils is the best Rockabilly tone ever on Clean with some slapback! This is the cheapest guitar I've ever owned, but one of the most versatile sounding and best playing! It does every thing: Blues, Country, Jazz AND Metal!!!! I'd never attempt doing this on a $400+ Tele, but on one for less than $100, you can go to town!!!

This rockabilly tone monster is probably one of the most beautiful Custom Shop creations you might expect from Paul Waller.

I can honestly associate this guitar with Pete Townshend and Eric Clapton from his early days with the Yardbirds-during which he played two of the most iconic guitars in his carreer: a Dakota Red 1963 Telecaster and a 1958 Chet Atkins double-cutaway 6120 Country Gent.

This Dakota Red '63 Relic is a pristine representation of Eric's original.

Sorry for the off-topic. :?

I'd say that the shape of the guitar makes a difference in the name. By your logic that pick ups and electronics are the defining factor, well then, I guess the Gibson Les Paul isn't really a Les Paul once the company went from P-90s to HBs.

Infact you would have to change many model names, i.e. the Clapton Strat or any other Strat with other than stock pups.

I own a home built Andy Summers inspired Tele and to me, well it's a Tele. People who play the guitar look up at me on stage and go, "nice Tele."

No, I'm afraid I'm going with the idea that genaral layout, body, neck and parts make it said guitar.

But what about the Broadcaster? I mean, it's really just a Tele with a different name.

This is the first humbucker equipped Tele I ever owned, a 1994 vintage Made In Japan Tele Thinline reissue that I ordered new in '94.

Image

This is maybe the third humbucker equipped Tele that I bought, a FSR Made In Korea model featuring a sculpted solid mahogany body, bound body and neck and DiMarzio humbuckers with coil-tap. I like it a lot.

Oh, and this little sucker is also a set neck.

Teles with humbuckers still Telecasters? Hell, yeah!
