Hi there folks, I have finally decided on taking the plunge after 20 years of playing to lay down some cash on a MIA Fender Tele. While I was looking around, I stumbled on an ad for an unused one from a private seller. My obvious concern is that it is one of those quality Chinese copies. The guitar is in Hong Kong and the price is almost too good to be true. I would attach some pics if i could figure out how.......the one pic that concerns me, is the one of the serial number on the headstock. The numbers are not quite in a straight line! Is this something that Fender would let slip through their quality control? All the other pictures he sent me, the guitar look legit ( but I s'pose you never can tell) if someone can give me some tips on how to upload pics, I'll get them up here pretty sharpish. Serial number is US11286790. American standard Tele, natural finish.

Thanks for the tips stratele52!!! What do you think?
The photos look kinda legit to me, but I know there are some pretty convincing copies out there! Like I said earlier......the serial number looks a little wonky and if I'm gonna stump out a load of cash on an American tele (dream guitar for me) then I obviously want to make sure I'm not getting a convincing looking copy!

That one looks legit to me; probably someone who just doesn't know what a fair price would be and is just trying to get rid of an unwanted instrument.

The serial number not being in a 100% straight line is pretty typical - sometimes I think that is almost on purpose to make the "US11" part stand out even more from the 6 digits that make up the unique part of the serial number.

Let me put it to you this way - if this is a fake, then it is the best fake I've ever seen since every detail seems 100% correct.

Thnks for the reply John C.......I thought it looked good, but as I don't know these guitars as well as some of you guys I thought it would be best to get a more experienced opinion!

You might want to check with US Customs if there are any fees for importing this back to the US. Import/export laws are being scrupeously followed these days by our government.

FWIW

Thanks for your concern mate, but I should be fine on that front. I'm on a contract working in Hong Kong at the moment, so by the time I take this beauty home it will technically be 'used'! I'm fairly sure that only new goods are subject to tax laws........
