Many alternative/garage/indie rock bands are favoring telecasters theses days, but which model would be best for these genres?
Think: the strokes, the vines, cage the elephant, the raconteurs

There are lots of teles which would suit that sort of music.

What sort of money are you looking to spend?

Tochai is right. Theres a wide variety there that could fit the indie movement. Kk in the forums is talking about a classic 50 right now which would do the job great but theres soooo many more! (Mex standard, roadworn etc) id probably steer clear of the blacktop or baja teles for their pickup hotness migh not suit the chime-iness your after in that genre. But those listed above are some great entry level options.

You could go the otherway to the custom shop and get what ever u wanted.

the '70's customs and deluxes seem to get a lot of use by indie bands.

the first band i was in, back in the early-mid 2000's, we used to play lots of the music you're referring to. oasis, strokes, radiohead, vines, stereophonics, ocean colour scene, white stripes, kasabian, the verve, reef, and i always managed to get a good enough sound from my 72 custom tele. but i think also a lot of it was down to my OD pedal, an electro harmonix english muff'n. valve powered stompbox, sounds unreal.

saying that, i think most sounds can be had from most guitars given enough understanding of amp settings, guitar settings, pedal settings etc. especially the relatively 'simple' sounds of the music you're referring to.

and saying that, nobody ever came up to me after playing live to tell me my guitar wasnt suited to the song i was playing. i used to take a couple of guitars to a gig not because i wanted the sounds, but just because i had some nice guitars i wanted to play. the only time i ever used a guitar for a specific reason was my strat if i needed to use the whammy bar, and my 72 custom if i really wanted to use the bassy, boomy neck humbucker sound on its own.

I am actually going to get one of those once i get the cash together. From what ive heard in vids and from speaking to some people, i get the impression the p90's might be a bit 'full' for those scratchy garage sounds. Sounds nice though, cant wait to get mine.

That must be nice.
You might call the type of music I play "Indie", in an ugly alt-rock sort of sense of the word. I have a stock 2004 American Deluxe and a 2006 MIM Standard to which I've added a 4-way switch and kill switch. Both work quite nicely.
