i know that my Texas special pups are hot, but I also know that it has an excellent noise whenever I plug my guitar to a solid state amp, what guys you recommend?should I change my Tex Mex pups into a noiseless pups?or should I buy some noise gate, noise reducer pedals, or any of the pedals that can cure the noise of my pups?my tele doesn't sound good whenever I plug it into a line 6 spider 4 15w, too treble, even I lowered the treble knob of my amp...

I own an american special tele and a blacktop tele. They are my two gigging guitars. I play through a Line 6 Pod XT Live into a hot rod deluxe live. The american special really is the jack of all trades, overwound single coils give you the single coil bite that can hang with the humbuckers.

The pickups in the american special aren't tex-mex pickups, they are custom shop Texas Specials. Check this out

http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/stratoc ... nions.html

So heres the rub: I love my american special, and plugged directly into my blackface twin or HDR it sounds killer. Through the Pod XT, even with EVERYTHING turned off, just straight through, it sounds bland, dull and lifeless, turn on a stopbox effect and it sounds like a stompbox, but no chime. Why do I gig with this rig? How else am I meant to sound to get Jet swooshes for kravitz "Are you gonna go my way", Delay for edges "With or without you", phaser for van halens "jump". Its the price you pay load into a gig in under 10 mins.

But when I'm at home, American Special into a real tube amp...... sounds like "THE" tele in my head. Its what I think a tele SHOULD sound like. My advice is save your pennies and go out and buy a real tube amp. Keep the line 6 because you can gig with that if they mic it.

PS I own a blackface twin that I don't gig with because the HDR is lighter.

Hmm, thats a tough question. U may have the best option already. 30 watts is probably your goal aim for gigging vs home use. The peavy delta 30 gives a bluesy great clean tone to my ears. But if you're looking for a tube jack of all trades try a egnator rebel 20 or 30. Great tube options at a selectable wattage and low"ish" price.

Having said that, have u tried everything.on.your existing amp? Have u upgraded to the latest version of software on the amp. Also i.see from the manual that there is a noise gate built into the amp. Have u tried switching this on for your crunch tone? (Its on by default for the other modes) Line 6 are known for doing top notch simulations so if this noise gate doesnt help, i doubt a real pedal based one would.

I hope that helps an Good luck :)

thx for the ideas, now, my eyes are open wide and started planning to grab some affordable tube amp and a noise gate pedal, my noise gate on my spider 4 didn`t work well, what do you think is the best noise gate pedal that suites for a tele dude?

Ok, I'm going to make an assumption here: Since your name is DirtyBluesPlayer I take it you're after something to play dirty blues. And for 30 watts (bedroom + gig levels when needed) Then you're probably after something like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Sxrhpes40
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYnWa3mnx2E

I got the name wrong earlier, the amp is called Peavey Classic 30 (not delta). Please note, this guy isn't playing with pedals, no noise gate. Its just the overdrive of the tube amp. If you want dirty blues, cheap price, all tube, thats all you should need.

Heres an example of my rig: American Special Tele (front pickup) + TS9 + Hot rod deluxe (HRD).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIjWjzSwwJQ&t=0m22s

Solo is the TS9 turned on.

The Peavey Classic 30 retails for $640 US. You can pickup good quality used HRD's for that price aswell, a TS9 overdrive pedal is around $100. so Yeah for dirty blues theres 2 cheap low wattage options.

And for that type of music you DON'T need a noise gate.

If you want to play metal, Get a mesa boogie and whack a Boss NS2, they're the best on the market. You aint gonna get bedroom level sounds or entry level prices for a full metal sound + noisegate.

Dan

such a nice advice, my rigs and pedals are cheaps, i have a boss bd-2, boss md-2, boss fdr-1, and a dunlop jh-1b cry baby, maybe the amp is my only complicated problem, BTW thx alot. My playing style is a jimmy page of led zepp, page`s dirty blues are too naked that`s why i am looking for a better amp than a solid state

Yeah man grab yaself a better amp, sounds like ya have the axe and the pedals sorted. and those lower wattage amps cranked will give you a good approximation of those zep tones (the Supro page used on the first album was only 10 watts I think).

BTW Don't sell ya line 6. you'll love to have that to come back sucker to play around with.

I just looked at a demo of the MD-2. You may want to get the NS-2 pedal and put the MD-2 in the NS-2's loop if you crank that sucker all the way up.
