ive got a 1985 MIJ '62 custom tele, which i just got out from its case after ive been playing something else for the last month or so.

i dont know if its normal or not, but theres a lot of volume drop-off when i switch from the bridge to neck pickup. the scratchplate has probably never been off the guitar in its life, so no idea what its like underneath.

also, this is a bit embarrassing/nooby - i havnt brought a set of strings for years as i dont play much now. before i got the 62 out i have been playing my 72 custom, and it made me realise the G string on the '72 is wound, and needs replacing as its become 'ridged' where it goes over the fret. the '62 G string is bare.

surely something is weird here, but im not sure what, as i cant even remember what guage strings are on the guitars. i was at one point playing with .12 or .13's though, could this explain it ?

You can raise the neck pickup a little. That should help.

Also I would go with 10's.

moochy - if you were playing with .012s or .013s on that '72 Custom then those sets certainly could have come with a wound G string - I'm 99% sure you can get those sets with either a plain or a wound G.
