I see that Fender produced a few Telecasters with p90's stock. The Jim Adkins model with an Ash body and the Black Dove model with an Alder body. And there was a limited run FSR 72 that had an Alder body.

In any case I picked up a set of second hand Gibson p90's and I'd like to load them into a project tele body eventually.

What's everyones take on body wood for p90's?

Mahogany. Worked for Gibson for years...just remember, the string spacing of a Gibson is different from a Tele.

So let's say if I routed out a Stratocaster body for a Telecaster Tele bridge pup and neck pup, and they were layed out in the same relative location as on a Telecaster...I would have a Strat that sounds like a Telecaster?

I guess this video lends to much of what your original comment says.

Ill have to agree with this statement.... I just bought a Fender Modern Players Jaguar (blacktop version)....

I thought the mahogany version (made in china with subpar pickups) actually had a warmer tone (than the blactop MIM jag), which I liked better.... But this version had horrible tuners and a volume knob that got in the way of my right hand... very annoying placement of that knob... But the tone of this guitar is to die for...

The blacktop Modern player jag sounded nice too (Alder)... and had much better tuners and the knobs placement was much better... So, I bought that guitar...

Its not a huge difference, but I could detect it... Then again I have a guitar player's ear...

Sorry, but the wood does affect the sound of an electric guitar, just a simple fact. The question is is it enough to warrant arguing or pining about. Everybody's mile may vary on that.

did you just google the phrase and paste links? hahahaha that is awesome
some people crack me up. I would suggest you read the links you copied and pasted there
one has absolutely nothing to do with electric guitars or how they produce sound, and the other one argues my side

I have a 335 copy and it sounds good unplugged. With the 335 i do find it being the one guitar that always requires me to turn my reverb knob down. I think it has to do with the neck being very thin and you can feel that neck transferring the strings energy. Pluck a string and touch the back of the neck and you feel every nuance. If not the body, that neck certainly adds something to alter the electrified sound.

Really, you should read that paper before you quote it. It contradicts your statements

I have a thinline copy (sort of), with P90s made of mahogany and with a set neck and it sounds great. It sounds particularly good playing slide/lap steel type stuff. If you turn the tone most of the way down you get a really mellow dry sort of sound.
