Hi, I have a mid 90's MIM 50's Tele. The tuning keys are the vintage keys of that time frame. Recently, I have been experiencing some tuning problems which I believe is caused by slippage in the keys.
I want to replace these with a new set of keys which have a better gear ratio. I do a lot of strings bends, especially on the low end strings. Does anybody have an idea as to a good replacement? Thanks.

Kluson or Schaller, I suppose? I know I read in a Fender history article that they used Kluson during that time frame. You may try those locking tuners too.

Your tuning problems are almost certainly caused by the nut slots being too tight, irregularly shaped, or otherwise imperfect.

Take it to a GOOD guitar tech for a setup and I bet it will stay in tune very well.

Even cheap guitars these days have decent tuning machines, but many mass-produced guitars at all price levels need some minor adjustments to the nut slots by a tech who has the knowledge, experience, and proper tools.
