I would like to replace the pickguard of an original 74 Telecaster Custom with a new one.

Does anyone know if the pickguards for the reissues (Fender part: 0054523002) will fit onto a 1974 body?

The descriptions I can find only say it fits most "contemporary" tele customs.

I read something where the original hum bucker may be wider than the reissue. Anyway, I am aware I can custom order a pick guard, but if I could just use the fender reissue part, I would.

Note: I am not looking for original replacement parts, I don't care about that, I've just had this one Tele for over 30 years, and I want to get it back in my lineup.

Cheers,

moochy13,

Overall playability wise, nothing wrong with it. A few small dings here and there. Some finish worn off the maple neck from playing it. The pots are a little scratchy right now, but that can be taken care of. The pickguard, however, has about a 2" blemish from when an old girlfriend spilled some nail polish remover on it. I will keep the original pick guard, but still want to replace it, for now. I've had this one since I was a little kid, I sort of retired it for a while, so resale doesn't matter to me, I will never sell it. Based on Fender's description though, I don't think the reissue pick guard template will match, so am wondering about that.
