I bought a new 60th anniversary tele mim standard, I brought it home and noticed the high "e" string was hanging off the neck, and that all the other strings were really far over on the neck. I looked at the saddles they were fine, then I looked at the nut and saw it was really far over, being an experienced guitarist and having had many guitars in the past, I new this was not right so I tried pushing on it with my fingers to get it back in place, well it moved, that thing moved alot. I know that none of my strats have this problem and actually now that I think about it my other tele doesn't have this problem eithier. so my question to you guys is.
1. Are any of you having this issue.
And
2. Is the Made in Mexico (MIM) tele suppost to do this, is it some kind of hidden feature or something.

If you guys could respond ASAP I'm going to Guitar Center first thing in the morning and I'm not really sure how to explain what is going on, I don't want to look like an idiot if this a minor issue.

Thanks

Sounds to me like the nut hasn't been securely fixed into its slot in the neck. Never had this problem myself but I think it's normally held with one or two small spots of glue - these don't seem to have taken, in your case.

If you were dealing with a second hand guitar, I'd say have a shot at fixing it yourself: one or two tiny spots of superglue in the underside of the nut (don't coat the whole length of it or you'll never be able to remove it if you need to change it in the future) and make sure it's centralised on the neck and securely seated in the slot.

But as it's a new instrument, I'd say return it and either have the shop repair it under warranty (if they have a decent tech) or replace it.

HTH.

The neck was put on crucked. Loosen the bolts that attach the neck to the body and realign it. This happened to me when I first got my EC Strat. It freaked me out, but in less than 5 minutes it was perfect. I would enlist the help of a friend or take it back to the store and have a the guitar tech take a look at it. While your there have them do a quick set up.

Bring it back to GC and have them see it.

Could be real simple as not being properly glued into place.

As said, it sounds like the glue used to fix the nut has given way.
Take it back for a fix, or a replacement!

Sorry, I apparently missed the whole, "The nut is too far over part." Ya, I would have the store take a look at it. I still say have them do a quick set up.
