Hey All,
I just picked up an MIJ 62 Deluxe Tele body from a fairly well-known Fender parts seller on the auction site. It was listed as having Texas Special PUPs.
I pulled the guard and plate...here's the skinny: wires are thin enamel, flat pole-pieces (bridge), and the pots are small and marked "Japan." Also two small, brownish, pillow-shaped caps (one bridges the two pots), and a white plastic switch housing.
So...are these PUP's Texas Specials? Honestly, I don't care that much because I have some Baja PUP's I am going to put in (and these sound nice), but I would like to let these folks know about it because they sell a lot of stuff.
Thanks all.

Texas specials should have flat staggered poles, usually white cloth type wire around the poles and yellow and black vintage style cloth wires from the pups. Neck pup will have an additional white wire. CIJ teles will have the small pots normally. Your pups sound like they are japan pups.

Thanks for the response. I've gotten info. from some other sources that say there are MIM Texas Sp.'s and a USA Texas Sp. "They" say that the MIM TS doesn't have cloth covered leads. I have no clue what the real deal actually is. I'd like to...but not enough to do an autopsy. If I change the PUP's I'll check out the bottom. I suspect you're right and they're MIJ.
So...I'm going to let it go and just play it. It sounds pretty nice as is and I have a drawer full of cool PUP's to try if I get bored.
This seller is not the most responsible/responsive that's for sure. The switch tip looked bent in their picture, so I asked about it before I bid. They said it just looked that way in the picture...well...it looks that way because it is bent. I'm not gonna out them, but always look at feedback...but everyone knows that.

Your source is wrong. Sort of. Texas Specials are US Custom Shop built. Tex-Mex pickups, which are similar and I think, hotter, are made in Mexico if I am not mistaken.
