ive not really felt the urge to buy a guitar for a while, but just now while browsing idly through the fender catalogue, this beasty looking thinline jumped off the screen at me.

unless im mistaken, this is the cheapest way into a thinline tele, and i love the look of the 'natural' finish model with maple neck. im not sure i care either way for the pickups from the demo videos, but i guess so much of that is down to amp, settings and other things. so the demo vid may not be much to go by? ive always tryed out any thinlines at the local shop, but they're a bit too pricey for me right now. the MP is roughly half the price of a 72 thinline.

im just wondering if anybody here has one, or what you guys can tell me about it. im particuarly interested to know how 'see through' the finish is in the flesh, as i know a camera flash and lighting can exaggerate things. i really want to see the wood, so hope its not too dark.

also, ive got a mex std strat, a 72 custom RI and a 1985 62 custom RI. in terms of neck, what is the modern player closest to from those i own ?

it will also go well with my 72 custom 8) .

edit - ive just seen a pic of the back of the headstock, with the dreaded words "crafted in china". is this as bad as it sounds ?

thanks

A friend got one of those. He told me he should bring it over for 'inspection' one of these days, but he has not showed up , yet. Perhaps in the weekend...
Anyway , he was satisfied, and had no complaints about it. I'll tell you if I find out something.
Don't think CIC is a problem - it is a FENDER :D I've got a Squier Affinity (butterscotch) -and I think its built very good. But the electronics are a bit weak on that one. So I switched the pickup selector to an original Fender , and she inherited the old neck-pickup from my MIJ thinline. And then she became very lively
But I am sure these things are way better in that Modern Player.
Can't tell you which is the closest match to neck- but it is a MODERN one  9,5''radius (more flat than the vintages) -with a c-shaped neck. Pretty comfortable i think - nice for bending !
I personally love the vintage style , but I also like those modern necks a lot
You better try one :-) Stop dreaming, start buying
