I never heard a demo to have a verdict. Surely they'll sound much better than the previous noiseless pickups.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the cutaway on the back. I am not sure I approve of the new update since I like the simple telecaster slab body.

Oddly enough I have updated and installed exactly the same pickup configuration on a few of my telecasters. It is the same as my CS Custom Classic tele and it is a great combination. The twisted tele is an excellent pickup and the broadcaster bridge tele provides a vintage sound and effective output.

I have the previous USA Standard and found the pickups, especially the bridge, lacking. The other criticism I had of the previous Std is the 'rolled' fretboard which resulted in poor results for pull offs on the top string (and not fixed by changing the setup). I hope Fender have fixed this on the fretboard on the 2012 model.

You're welcome.

Don't get me wrong, I love the traditional Tele's slab body. I own seven Telecasters and six are contour free. The contour just felt right on the 2012 American Standard.

I don't think of the American Standard line in vintage terms. I think of it as a modern Tele for the year it was produced. The change to Custom Shop Twisted Tele neck and Broadcaster bridge pickups, the thinner undercoat, the new bridge design and yes, the contour were all winners for me.

Play one and let us know what you think.

John

Btw and out of curiosity; what is the weight of your new Std Tele?

I would happily trade in my Ash USA Std Tele for this new release in a heartbeat. But not looking for any new additions atm. My comment on the belly cut is simply a personal aesthetic preference.

I do not think of the current Standards in terms of 'vintage' or original form telecasters either. I feel that these are new machines for modern times and the latest evolution of the Fender Telecaster. That said the inclusion of such great classic sounding pickups appears to be the perfect step forward in creating a hot telecaster at a lot less than custom shop prices.

Enjoy your new guitar!

I prefer the 2012 US Standards with the "Baja" mod for versatility reasons. The 4-way selector and S1 switch offer a much wider palette of sounds.

It's remarkably light but it sustains as well as my heavier ash Teles. The light weight and the body contour make it the most comfortable Telecaster I have ever owned.

I own a Baja, too. I might end up adding a 4-way switch but I don't miss S-1 switching on the new Standard. If I want it, I'll grab the Baja. :)

Contours on Teles are deal breakers for me. I'd rather have a reissue of some sort than one of these bastardized Strat wannabes.

That's just silly.

If everyone liked the same things, life could be very dull...

How are the new US Std bodies routed?

Do they have a route for a middle strat-style pickup?

I love a good vintage style, slab bodied tele, but a part of me would like a contour bodied tele with strat middle and neck pickups but still with the tele bridge and bridge pickup...

Perhaps you want a 7-way switching system a la Tele Plus (2nd version)/US Deluxe Nashville and a bound top like the American Deluxes?
