I had the chance to try the new American Standards at Guitar Center Monday. I went primarily to test the Strats but ended up falling hard for this 3-Color Sunburst Tele with a rosewood fretboard.

I love everything about it, from the body contour to the Custom Shop Twisted Tele neck and Broadcaster bridge pickups. I already have a Baja Tele with the same pickups, 4 way switching and S-1 but the American Standard sounds a bit more civilized. Raw is good too, so I'll definitely keep both. :)

I never saw the Standard having the Deluxe belly cut.

Can you post another pic showing the tummy contours?

Everyone can put the binding in the top to make this guitar looking pretty much like a pre-2004 Deluxe.

The American Standards also deserve a compound radius neck.

This particular feature is a premium upgrade and can be only offered in the form of a Factory Special Run. Prices may skyrocket a bit.

Contours on Teles are deal breakers for me. I'd rather have a reissue of some sort than one of these bastardized Strat wannabes.

You're welcome Mike.

I'm almost tempted to rename this thread "The Controversial Contour."

This guitar would look better with a bound top.

If I wanted a bound top, I would have bought an American Deluxe. I have been there and done that and I prefer this version of the American Standard to either of the American Deluxes I have owned. But that's just me... :)

The USA Deluxe Ash uses a plain slab body.

Yes, but there was a 2011 Antique Cherry Burst with binding that I played before I chose the 2012 American Standard. It was a dead ringer for this 2009 I owned but with N3 pickups.

So I made the conscious decision to go with the body contour with no binding. The American Standard's Custom Shop Twisted Tele neck and Broadcaster bridge pickups sealed the deal.

There are rumours saying that Fender will replace the N3s with the new Super 55 split-coils in the fall of 2012, though the exact date remains unknown.

If that were to happen, what difference in sound would that make?
