The American Standard Telecaster got an overhaul with Custom Shop pickups (Broadcaster at the bridge and Twisted at the neck) and - surprise - a comfortable Strat-style belly cut like the Deluxe without the binding!

Never saw an American Standard Tele with a contoured body before. Contoured Tele bodies were offered only on the higher-priced American Deluxe and Custom Shop instruments.

Do you, like me get the feeling the Deluxe range could be on the way out? The American Standards getting pup & body overhauls and the introduction of the Select series. Seems to me the Deluxes are getting squeezed out.

USA Standard basses had given Custom Shop pickups, too! Two Custom Shop 60s J-Bass singles for the Jazz and a Custom Shop 60s P-Bass split humbucker for the Precision. Tough luck, 5-string models didn't sport CS pickups.

Now it's the turn of the American Deluxes to get their thumbs up with the recently introduced Super 55 Split-Coils!

I demo'd a nice Jade Pearl Metallic one and I agree.

These are awesome feeling and sounding Telecasters!

I couldn't agree more, Mike. I fell hard and fast for a 3-Color Sunburst/Rosewood American Standard and had to take it home. It's an oustanding upgrade.

Those Deluxe belly cuts make for a comfortable twangbanger to play. :)

The beer gut cut is neccessary when sitting and playing. Or the edge of the body digs into your ribcage. THE only thing that ever bothered me about a Standard tele body, and one of the reasons I bought an American Deluxe.

Great improvements, I just wish they would offer it in LPB, like they have with the Strat. It's strange cos the LPB is now showing up on Fender products page, but dealers do have them.

Yep, but the Deluxes had a bound top and a beveled neck heel. The Standards did have only the tummy cuts without the binding and a rectangular neck plate like the pre-2004 Deluxes and the 2nd Generation Pluses.

I am very well aware of that, thank you.

Meh. A Tele with contours doesn't look right. Contours are for Strats. I like my Teles to be planks.
