Please help!! I have a 2008 MIM Tele. It belongs to a friend of mine and I was going to press the frets in (you could actually see the fret tangs and it came like this new!!) and then dress and level, clean and set up. I took the bridge off to do a thorough cleaning and put it back together, but the bridge pickup won't work. I can hook it to an amp and tap it and it has planty of output, but no sound. I'm pretty sure it's a ground problem, as I'm not quite sure where the ground w/ lug that laves the bridge pickup goes. I can't find any schematics that show the actual placement of the ground. All say to solder to pot, but there is a ground screw under the bridge that is wired to the pot and p-up. I'm guessing that it's a bridge ground, but not sure. Please help, I have to have it back to him tomorrow!!! I tested the p-up and it reads 10.02, so I know the p-up is good!!

Hi , you said ; " I can hook it to an amp and tap it and it has planty of output, but no sound. I'm pretty sure it's a ground problem, as I'm not quite sure where the ground w/ lug that "

Yes the ground screw with wire under the bridge is the bridge ground.
If plenty of output you should have sound at the amp. No sound = not plenty output

You have a positive wire not connected , no problem with ground wire. If you had no ground you'll heat a lound hum. at the amp

For diagram ; all tele are the same go there;
http://support.fender.com/service_diagr ... B_SISD.pdf

You have a broken wire somewhere or a positive wire short to the ground that 's why you don't ear sound . A careful looking to all wiring and connexion you see something

I now have sound if the pickup is real close to the strings, but I have a ground hum. It gets a lil less when I switch to the neck pickup. Anyone?

If you don't see nothing wrong send us a photo of pots/ switch /wiring. It really look that you have something wrong with the wiring . Half broken wiring or 2 wire twisted or touching together . This make the sound very low output

The ground wire does go to the lug under the pickup, then another wire goes from the lug to the pot closest to the output jack and is soldered to the back of that pot.

Its something kinda new I'm guessing fender is doing, i found this relay style of ground wiring in a 2003 I just upgraded to Texas specials.

Run that jumper from the lug in the pickup cavity to the back of that pot aned you should be up and running.

Thanks so much for all the help. I'm still not sure what was wrong with that darn thing. I unsoldered the bridge p-up and unsoldered the output jack and hooked the bridge p-up straight to the jack and it worked just fine. Noisy as hell, but worked. I saw a lil corrosion on the end of the bridge p-up hot wire (yellow) where is was attached to the switch. I'm guessing that it was the problem. Maybe just moving it around caused a somewhat bad connection to get worse? LOL Anyway, she's working now, BUT it's a lil noisier than I think it should be. I mainly play on buckers and I'm not used to single coil hum. So, any ideas on making this Tele as quiet as possible? Like with the ground system, not doing any shielding or anything, but can I do anything to the ground to quiet it. I'm pretty sure it's got more "hum" than it should, but other than that, she's ready to rock!!! Now, if Gibson would have a forum like this. Not to discuss their new trash (I hate the Firebird X), but a way to swap ideas about the old classics. LOL Thanks again to all that helped on this.

I have struggled with tele's forever trying to make them quiet without using tone destroying stacked "noiseless" pickups.

I've used copper shielding tape till the cows came home and still a little hum.

Good luck !
