All,

I have a Squier Classic Vibe 50s telecaster that I bought new several months ago. I recently purchased a new amp (Line 6 Spider IV 75). I've been noticing that when I play the tele with a clean tone, there is a scratchy/staticy noise that comes through the amp speaker. I don't have this issue with any of my other guitars. I'm not that technical when it comes to guitars, but I suspect there might be an issue with the pickups in the tele. Does anyone know what I could do to eliminate the scratchy/staticy noise?

The "staticy" noise that you described may be exactly that. Static electricity. Not in the pickups but in the pickguard. I had a problem with static on my CV50. The pickguard is made of cheap plastic. Do you get the noise when you just rub your fingers on the pickguard. Or touch the switch? I found polishing the guard with guitar polish eliminated the static. Others have said they wipe it with a dryer sheet.

old tom,

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't even thought about that, but I suppose the noise could be coming from the pickguard when I rub my arm/hand against it when I'm playing. I don't think it's happending when I touch the switch, though. I'll try polishing the pickguard and see if that helps. Thanks again for the feedback!

I had Static noise problems until I put Copper Foil with electrically conductive adhesive on the back of the pick guard. Not only is the static gone but my Tele is quieter now.

Thanks, raeldridge. I'll definitely keep this website in mind if I decide to upgrade the pickguard on my tele!
