Recently I tried my hand at a Telecaster fitted with a Parsons B Bender. It was superb but expensive. After looking into it I find out that Fender make the Nashville B-Bender Telecaster and that brings me to this question- ' Which would be the best thing to do, buy the pre-made Nashville or get hold of the Parsons B Bender and fit it to my existing tele ( 2005 standard American issue, butterscotch/blonde) ?' I would greatly appreciate any advice on this matter.

Axe'n'Tone,

I wanted to try my hand at a B Bender and reviewed some options. I chose to get a Squier Classic Vibe 50 and put a Hipshot on it. The Hipshot is a device that you can put on any Telecaster and turn it into a B-Bender, G-Bender, Drop E, or even Other Drop Tunings. I went with a B/G and drop E. It stays in tune and can be tried with very little to no damage to your tele. It is would give you a chance to try a Bender to see if you like it. Many guitarists (such as Will Ray) still use a Hipshot professionally. Here are a few photos of mine. Note, I could not stop with just a Bender and did a few more Mods.

Other Mods I made are:
Hipshot Bridge
Lollar Pickups
New Electronics
Electrosocket Jack
New Pick guard

Thanks,
Don

Don,

Thanks for the info. That hipshot device looks like a remarkable bit of kit. I looked into it and it seems pretty easy to fit. Unlike the Parsons B Bender where extreme wood butchery is involved. I also love the way it gives you instant access to open and drop tunings as well as B and G bending. Yep I think this is the one for me. I can't see any problem fitting it to my existing Telecaster. The next guitar I'm after is the Custom Deluxe but Hipshot first. All I have to do now is save up the pennies. May I add you have some beautiful looking instruments there sir. Once again, I thank you for your know how.

Tony

Hey Tony,

A couple of things to note on the Hipshot. It can be installed with no modifications to your Tele, but I found it to be far more stable with the two small screws on either side of the strap pin. Also, make sure to lube your nut, it helps to keep everything smooth and in tune. I found the best prices for the bender on eBay, but I ordered the bridge directly from Hipshot.

If you choose to go with a Parson's bender, Gene Parsons still has a shop in Napa and will install one on any Tele you have. (www.stringbender.com) He also runs an Inn up there, sounds really nice.

Hope that helps,
Don

PS, thank you for the compliments on the other guits. In that photo, my '72 RI Custom is on the left, an American Standard is behind, and an American Deluxe Ash Tele is on the right. I sold the RI as I couldn't bond with the 7.25" radius.

I like my Nashville b bender last year I found a brand new 2011 from a ebay store (cream city music.) About 1500.00. Black and perfect I had them add on a mustang 4 amp. Good pricing. I found a USA 2002 Nashville b bender with out the pg bender 550.00 I had installed one in a new tele knock off to see how much work it was I am a pro cabinet maker so I know how to make patterns and router tech. It was several hours and no scratches in the then new tele knock off. I installed the pg in the ebay 2002 telecaster They cost about 300.00 for the bender. I have found them for less lately. So I now have two I could sell on for 900.00. Not the 2011. They are cool I do not bend all the time but It can get the steel guitar sound with very little effort. Keep checking e bay fender b bender and there are some up for bid. Regards Horton
